Since you say he has an Omni for family use and this car is for personal use,
i presume back seat space is not a criteria.

Then he has to choose between Alto K10 and A-Star.

Discounted A-star Lxi is just 15K more than Alto-k10 Vxi,
and it's a far superior car than Alto. No waiting periods also.
For that 15k extra you pay, you get a much modern car with
a safer chasis and body.
A-star is quite wide and spacious for 2 persons,
has excellent high speed dynamics and a decent steering.
Plus very fuel effiecint too.

Not confusing the user any further, if I were to choose from Alto and Figo and if I do not mind spending 80K more (which I guess is worth) I would go for Figo.

Your friend has the extra 80k upfront and roughly 500 per month on FE ??

Go for the Figo, it will be worth the extra money spent. It feels and drives far better than the Alto and has oodles more space.

Hi Sheel,
Great to see being active on what is essentially a cagers forum! Not jumping ship, are you!?

I like the convenience offered by Cars and after driving few, have started nitpicking and now know the good from bad. Though driving Tata's & MS, would be jumping for a Fiat/Ford soon

Cars are the best thing made by man, but then they come a close 2nd to two wheel exotica.

decided on figo : now the confusion is between petrol or diesel

We have decided on Figo. Attended the Kolkata Autofare last saturday and compared Figo with even Ritz and Swift. My friend found the driving position at Swift the best. Legrooms are at par. Figo has the best boot. But at 55k cheaper then Swift VDi(without ABS), Figo EXI diesel 1.4 Duratorq seems a viable option.

We have analysed and found that at approximately 800km per month usage diesel and petrol Figo will breakeven in 5 years.

Now the questions to Figo users are...
1. How much refined the 1.4 duratorq is?
2. How harsh it sounds (may be after few years of usage....can be inferred from icon 1.4 duratorq or fiesta diesel performance)?
3. Is the 69BHP@4000 diesel faster than 71BHP@6250 petrol due to availability of low end torque?

please suggest.

My replies inline

As much as the 1.4 duratorq Fiesta.

Of course.

Torque is pulling power and when you are speaking about low end it is more to do with low speed driveability and has got nothing to do with the horses available at highest rpms.

Both the engines cruise happily to 120-140 kmph and obviously you would not want to race, do you?

Said that the 150 cc compressor has its toll on petrol while it is not the case in diesel
please suggest.

All said and done, beside the KMs run diesel or petrol is more of choice than logic/features, people who love the torque go for diesels and those who want to revv themselves to glory go for petrol. Other comparisions notwithstanding!
