Fine motor works(Jailu's), Ludhiana

My indica has spent 2 years in Delhi. In these two years there have been minor nicks and cuts, nothing which a good rubbing could cure.
The worst damage was inflicted by a bunch of kids in our apartment building whose passtime is to damage cars. Haven't caught them red handed yet, unfortunately .
Anyways I kept on procrastinating the job, thiinking I will get it done in an insurance job etc., the cost being the main limitation.

One day while I was waiting at the traffic lights, an auto loaded with iron rods, sticking from the sides parked a little too close, and then took off changing lanes. Before I even realized what happened, there was a deep gash on the left side of the car. I tried to chase him, but driving manically through traffic he lost me.

I inspected the damge, the metal was cut at the door edges and there was a deep line cutting across both the doors!

My first instinct was try and claim insurance, but then the thought of no car for so many days, and the shoddy job they do at workshops held me back. I decided to go to a specialist.

One such guy was recommended to me by my uncle in Ludhaina, who owns Fine motor works, a paint and dent workshop.
He is called Jailu(nickname) and there is hardly anybody in that town who has not gone there with the wounded cars. He is extremely popular among college crowd who don't want the parents to know of the nicks and dents, and I must say he charges very very less too!.

This was around 2 months+ back. I did not post the review then because new paint always shines. But even after so much time, and my car is parked in the office in full delhi sunlight the paint is brilliant. Better than what I have seen done at TASS.

The total job done was
1. Entire car rubbing and polishing for minor nicks and cuts
2. Bonnet full paint
3. Two doors, half paint and denting(both doors), including welding at the edges.

The total cost came out to be 3000rs . Plus he told me next time I came to Ludhiana he will give a free polishing to the car!

And as for the pics(Sorry, don't have better quality)
Bonnet :

Side:

I will be going to him again when I go to Ludhiana, I have reversed my car into a tree which wasn't there when I parked(atleast I didn't see it). He is supposed to be expert in taking out dents without any paint damage.

Whoa! Must be one heck of a garage. Rs3000 for doing all that? How I wish Jailu had a workshop in Hyderabad. However all TASS do not do a shoddy job. Autofin guys did a pretty good job of rectifying the gashes, dents and all last year on my car. The paint job also was done so well that one can not tell where exactly they did the work. The cost they charged me was also pretty ok. For the whole of left side (2 doors and the C Pillar) and the bumper paint jobs they charged me a total of 6500 that too because it was insurance claim. Initially they quoted around 5.5 as they thought I will pay from my pocket.

The job I said included denting, welding + painting. In TASS just the bumper full paint costs 3500+!

Eh! Do the prices vary from region to region? The Autofin guy said 1.5 for the bumper. In fact his break-up for me was,
The front bumper - 1500
Rear bumper touch-up - 500
Body work and painting - 4500

P.S. : Something to that effect. I can not be very sure of this break up to the last decimal point... it was more than a year back.

Jailu is an expert in taking out dents without paint damage.
Being in Ludhiana, I can confirm that. If you want any help there, he knows us well.
There is also one more workshop, that goes by the name of United Auto. Comes after octroi post on Ferozepur Road.
Brilliant guys again. Very reasonable and the paint quality is to be seen to be believed. Better fit, finish and shine than OEM cars straight from the showroom.
Not me, but all the guys getting work done from him say so.

I forgot to take pictures then... The damage was quiet some thing.
Delhi members have seen the bonnet with expletives scratched on it.

Zappo, the rates are different. My mistype, its actually the bonnet paint which is 3500+ TASS.
I have found their paint quality very very pathetic as compared to this guy.

Good job done and very reasonably priced too!

I'm told that these days there's a machine that simply sucks dents away through a powerful vacuum. Have you guys heard of it? Has any TASS workshops installed it?

You can also claim insurance if you do your work from unauthorised garages.

Good to hear that you are happy with the job. Pretty reasonable bill amount!

Re: Fine motor works(Jailu's), Ludhiana

Bumped into this really old thread and found exactly what I am looking for(as usual, tbhp never disappoints). I was on lookout for some good body shop in ludhiana to rectify some nicks and dents in my i20. Anyone who has driven in mad Ludhiana traffic will know how difficult it is to keep your car a virgin for more than few days.

Can anyone share the location of 'Fine Motor Works' ?

Re: Fine motor works(Jailu's), Ludhiana

On Ferozepur road, cross the light which takes you to GNPS in Sarabha nagar.
After that keep a lookout to the left, and you should see the workshop.
Its approx opposite the PAU gate which comes right after the Sarabha Nagar red light.

That said his charges have slightly increased. For example for full rear door of a Ford fiesta(some denting and full painting) he quoted 2000 INR.
Earlier similar jobs used to cost 1000-1200 INR.

But then nowadays I see a lot of high end vehicles also at his workshop(Endeavor, Fortuner etc.,) so I presume he has started using better quality paints like the Asian Paints Automotive range.
Only downside, I do not see an Oven Bake booth like you have at Tata Workshops. This means when its not sunny, it will be a bit risky to get the job done as some bubbling can happen due to slow drying of paint.
That said, one of our family friends had this bubble issue, and he painted it over again free of cost.

Re: Fine motor works(Jailu's), Ludhiana

thanks a lot for that prompt response.

I had an initial hunch about the same location though I did not know the name. This guy comes highly recommended from many other local friends too. I think this body-shop (or shops) opposite to PAU gate no.1 have been there for atleast 20-25 years. I remember going to school in early 90s and watching the stripped FIATs and M800s parked there.

Thanks Again !!
