Very strong rumours are in the air about Swift diesel being launched somewhere near september/october.
My question is, does it make sense to lauch a Diesel model of Swift? Most of the people buy Swift today for its looks and performance. By the time Swift Diesel is launched, the looks would become all too common (much like zen,Santro), with so many Swifts already on road. Also, the performance of the 1.3 diesel, no matter how good the JTD be, can never compare with a petrol engine (specially the 87bhp esteem engine). Now another negative point, is the space. The rear space compares no where with Indica/Indigo. The Taxi operators wont even look at Swift as a second option, they would much better stick with more spacious and much cheaper Indica. Same with other economy concsious normal buyers.
Would it not be better for Maruti to launch WagonR JTD instead? It can then be priced right in the Indica territory, and make for a good Taxi as well?..
Whatsay??

India is diesel country... Fit a diesel engine to my @$$ and even I will sell.

This sounds like an interesting project boombastic...lol:
I would not buy the swift no matter what engine it comes with... personally i dont like the car... they did a bad job of copying the mini...

It would sell only if the base version costs below 4.75 lacs and top version below 5.5 lacs.

Looks stands out even more no of cars run on the road. I had seen many OHC, but still I love the looks of it.

i wont like the diesel Swift, the current swift is tad underpowered(according to me, i am horse power hungry you see) so the disel version being heavier will be slower..

By when can i expect this version to hit the road.. lol:

I dont think maruti is going to take chances. They will launch both the Swift and the Wagon R with the 1.3 D. They dont cut into each other's territory anyway.

The poll is getting interesting.. 50/50 at the moment.. Not too many saying NO are replying though

That i leave it for the Taxi drivers. I am not interested in that model, you see..

A lot depends on the prcing.
If they get the pricing right as they did with the petrol Swift, it surely will sell.

Hope, Tata Indica gets a Crdi around the same time with beige interiors along with some extras and a improved gearshift.
Then we will see some competition.
And wonder if Getz gets the Accent crdi powerplant?

U've got a very loud exhaust in ur throat that it wont confirm with Euro 3 norms :D

swift and performance!! what can i say, rather prefer the diesel lol

I'd love the Swift in diesel.. But, as we all know, it will surely be atleast 40,000Rs. more than the Vxi version, which is a premium priced hatchback. Nonetheless, the concept of a diesel powered premium small car is striking, as we dont have many such players yet.. The power will be slightly down, but, the torque will should make up for all the loss in PS hopefully..

As far this model goes it has an engine with a good punch... A punch that when just demonstrated scared a big FAT Sumo $h!tless near a coffee shop. Remember? rl:

Well, this time, I'll spare you for the sake of rickshaw pullers... But that still doesn't mean Swift diesels won't sell, you see.. LOL.

You may not be interested but that dosent mean small diesel cars dont sell in this country esp down south. TATA Indica's success has been built on the fact that its a small diesel hatch, and its not taxi drivers buying them.

What Boom says is 100% right. BTW Boom whats your mileage?
