Hi!

Today morning I spotted 3 new Mitsubishi Outlanders & 1 Cedia parked in a hotel lot in Pune. Stickers lying on the back seats indicated they had been selected for ARAI testing.

Visually could not see any different badges or something indicating a new variant.

Is it not odd that 3 vehicles are sent for ARAI testing? Or could it be many engine options?

Did not take photos in my hurry.

Does anybody have any inkling of whether a diesel & a lower displacement engine is being planned?

(Mods: pls move to appropriate section if necessary- thanks)

These would be the 7 seater Outlanders which were rumoured to arrive in this year. Did you notice a 3rd row of seats?

BTW, the Outlander is indeed available with a 2.2L diesel in the UK. That, and a cheaper FWD variant, would have true potential in the market. Of all the 20 lakh SUVs, it's the Outlander that has the best ride & handling.

All that outlander needs is a diesel heart and I am glad HM is working on it. Hope they lauch it soon.

Ya there were some talks about it last year, but we all know HM..

You bet.. Heres some more on that..:)

WoW ! I hope they bring in the 175PS diesel 4x4 for this festival season ! But knowing HM, there are high chances they will screw up the pricing ! Still hope they do some price corrections are keep it on par with the Fortuner.

Edit:: Is the Outlander a CBU/CKD or do they manufature it in India?

The Outlander 7 seater on the same petrol engine gets 2 extra seats at in the third row via a contraption that that needs to be lifted from the cargo floor. Third row seating is a no no for anything other than a short commute. See video below

It would be great if we are getting a diesel Outlander - would help if any of Mitsu fans can scoop it out!

Cheers,

One of the cars had its seats folded down & was full of cartons. The other 2 had some stuff in the luggage area, but I could not make out any 3rd seat - possibly stowed away & covered with the carton boxes. The one car where I could go round to the drivers end - it had the 4wd/2wd selector knob - so it was a 4x4.

Yup - possibly one existing model (only change that comes to mind is more airbags) one diesel 4x4 model, & a lower spec model.

lets wait & watch.

HM should have launched the RVR @ 15-17 lakhs. Would have eaten up the market which is now being occupied by the YETI.

Of the 3 cars one had its rear seat dropped down & was loaded with a lot of cartons/boxes. The other 2 cars had some loose stuff in the dickey - possibly 3rd row seats were folded down & covered with the carpet & cartons.

I could walk over to the drivers door on one of the card. It had the 4wd selector knob. So it was a 4x4.

Yup - possibly one existing model with some additional airbags; one diesel 4x4 and a third cheaper variant.

We will have to wait & see.

Mitsubishi should have introduced the RVR - would have occupied the segment where only the Yeti is present.

Outlander is a CKD assembly at Chennai.

A diesel would be good this folding third row seat is a bit of a joke and the process for raising it though innovative is very complex.

Don't see it making any breakthrough sales on account of the addition of this type of third row seat, but a diesel 2.2 surely may help.

If only the diesel 2.2 is launched! The sales would pick up tremendously, IMO.
@swiftnfurious: AFAIK, Outlander is a CKD.
@sridhar: Where in Pune did you spot it? ARAI facility is very close to where I live. Probably a visit would reveal more details.

I spotted the 3 cars @ a Hotel (Deccan Park I think is the name) in Deccan Gymkhana. They had the protective paper cover/stickers on the roof & bonnet. No sign of travel dirt -so possibly were transported by trailer from Chennai. Why were they parked in the hotel on Saturday?(ARAI is closed on weekends). Most probably a team was coming down from Chennai and a couple of engineers would have come across with the cars in the truck.

Once the rains ease off I will take a walk in the ARAI hills to see if the cars have been sent to their yard.

I have not yet driven an Outlander but it is even better than Yeti?

Well, maybe because Yeti is not really a 20 lakhs SUV.

The Yeti Elegance is only around 16-17 lakhs Ex-Showroom. IIRC, the current Outlander is 20+ lakhs ex-showroom.

Disregarding the pricing whats your take?

Outlander is quite a handsome car, but I personally like the Yeti a lot – for its size, practicality, and driving characteristics. And all we have is a thirsty petrol motor in the Outlander.
In the current lot of softroaders / crossovers, my pick is the Yeti.

What was the Cedia doing there anyway? Was it there was testing too? A new engine option for the Cedia now.
