Re: SIAM's new vehicle classification system

Did SIAM revise the classification after 2011? How did Sunny / Scala (and few others as well) fall under C1 category then?

For E.g. the Ford Ecosport, which by length comes under 4 meters, and thus should be a B2 segment member. However, being a million rupee car, it is classified under C2 segment. Other examples are Dzire and Aspire, which too come under sub 4 meter category and are classified, a segment higher, under C1.
Where does the New Figo fit in? It has 1.5L engine and definitely sub 4m

+1.

Given the dimensions, engine size of 1.5 ltrs p/d, price and features; the Caaaar brothers should be happily sitting in the C2 class room. I cannot fathom as why they sit alongside the Sail Sedan which is smaller, substantially less expensive and comes with smaller engines (1.2p/1.3d).

Whereas Ciaz with 1.4p and 1.3d qualifies under C2, purely based on dimensions.

Length wise - B2
Price wise - C1
Engine wise - C2

Take your pick.

On a serious note the classification clearly demarcates any car beyond 4 meters and being a sedan in C category. Since, Figo is a hatch back it cannot enter into the territory of Sedans. Hence the Figo should be placed in the B2 group.
