From the front, the new Jetta is very similar to the new Passat.

Personally, it reminds me of the Audi A4 from the back

Boot space was never really a problem in the previous Jetta either, same continues for this new one too.

Anyway, looks like the Highline AT does not warrant a dual zone AC, either.
What are the 6 colours available? Anything as long as it is silver!

14.12 lakhs is a very good price for the base variant, in comparison the Laura MT Ambiente costs 13.94 lakhs(both prices ex showroom Delhi). Awaiting more information on equipment levels, variants and their pricing. Sadly the DSG is not offered in lower variants.

Looks like doesn't come with start-stop button feature compared to the European models.
+ point over the laura will be the back seat space, this one should be more comfortable.

Thanks for the report, Stratos. Gotta love clean, understated designs!

Same engine tune? The Laura doesn't come with a manual transmission on the higher powered diesel.

How does it compare to the spacious Altis & Civic? The Laura & Jetta haven't been able to match the Japs for space thus far.

Very nice upgrade to what was already a wonderful car, any picture of the front seats because that's one of the finest part about the previous Jetta where the seats offered a lot of support, the only part which I will really miss is the fact that they now offer Leatherette rather then the fine leather which was offered on the previous car which we have.

They also should have continued to offer Black Interior as an option and the trim should have been aluminium instead of wood it made the car look a lot better, but other than this loving it for every aspect including price, should work out to below 20 OTR in Ahmedabad for the DSG version and sun roof is not something I ever have missed, nor have I used it on cars which have it.

crackingride,.anshuman,

you can get all details including colour options here, and dimming mirrors are standard on the highline.

VW Jetta Variants India

GTO,

Yes all variants will be in the same engine tune, the manual should be a blast to drive. :)

Regards,

P.S The Jetta we have the 1.9TDI DSG had a 0-100 time of 11.xx seconds, any idea whats the new time? Volkswagen earlier always mentioned the 0-100 time, a practice they no more follow.

Agreed, but on this new Jetta, VW seems to have utilized the interior space well. Definitely felt spacious, add to that a good rear seat incline angle.

No information about feature distribution across the variants or overall price range was released during the launch.

This is very good, looks better than Passat and very well maintains the VW genes. Really nice!!!

1. To me the biggest blunder is not launching the Auto DSG in the lower trim levels. So between Laura and Jetta is is the Laura Ambient DSG which seems to be the best VFM buy.

2. For the petrol heads Jetta does not offer the brilliant TSI which the Laura does and going by the number of TSIs on T-BHP the enthusiasts will not be pleased.

Overall a curious strategy indeed.

VW designers seem too be getting a bit lazy in my view. Family look is one thing, but this is taking it too far.

From the front, its a modded Vento. Interior wise too, the Polo, Vento now Jetta all look basically the same.

Its one thing having a 9 lakh rupee car which looks like its hatch sibling, but an 18lakh rupee car. I am not too sure.

If I went into a VW showroom, I would see 3 brothers standing next to each other. Baby brother Polo, middle bro Vento and now the elder bro Vento. Though VW seems to have altered biology a bit by giving us the youngest first and eldest last.

Good stuff. Thanks for the report, Stratos.

Same thought that struck me clap:. Skoda is a little silly when it comes to mating engines and trannies: the MT Laura comes only with the 110 BHP engine, DSG variant only with 140 BHP one, etc. Nice that the Jetta has MT across variants.

Is this the dry-clutch DSG that is supposed to be more reliable than the older 7-speed one?

Edit: @crackingride: no climatronic on the Jetta? That's just sad!

VW Jetta Variants India

I saw this, but it doesn't mention a dual-zone AAC on the Highline. It says "climatic", and that to me, and other VW group cars, means a semi-auto AC. And if you look at the pic in this thread, the variant with the DSG definitely does NOT have the Climatronic.

crackingride,

Sorry but you are right it seems like a single zone and not the dual zone ac, also heated seats are no more the part of the car, I think this is because the seats are now being made locally, which is the worst thing to happen to this car and we in fact bought the 1.9 TDI only due to the seats, even while looking at the pics above the fit and finish of the seats is not as clean as the original seats which were present in the previous car,

Also does anyone notice VW is soon going to have a lot of cash over a period of next few years as all new Passat / Jetta are more of heavy upgrades of previous cars rather then a whole new development which would have saved them lots of money, if this move plays well for them expect them to be huge in the next few years considering they already benefit a lot with economy of scale by sharing a lot of components across their brands.
