Note from Mod : The Official Mahindra XUV5OO review has been uploaded at this link. Please continue the discussion over on the review thread.

Guys, I have made a small but comprehensive comparo between the newly launched Mahindra XUV500 with the Tata Aria & Toyota Innova.

Points to note:

1) All variants are top end. Innova top end can be compared with XUV W8 2wd & Aria Prestige 4x2. XUV500 W8 AWD can be compared with Aria Pride 4x4.

2) All details are collected from their respective websites.

3) Ex-showroom delhi price of Aria was unavailable, hence mumbai pricing was taken. So please assume Aria's pricing to be 30-40k cheaper when compared.

Great efforts man ! Probably Aria & Innova are the cars which are going to be compared directly. I still have a hunch that Innova might get away coz of the proper 3 row seats & T badge ! Anyway I will really look forward for the sales charts every month !

Nice Comparison. Innova is under equipped and Aria Over priced. XUV 500 is best VFM now. After two to three months, let us see how much is it priced. Tata has nicely screwed up the pricing of Aria. XUV 500 is the worthy competitor to Innova topend

NOTE to Mods: I have created a seperate thread purposely. Please do not merge this with the already busy XUV500 thread where it is not right to discuss about Innova & Aria. Thanks.

ARIA has 2 more varients below Prestige 4x2 at 11.7 and 12.7lak respectively with not much difference in features except for leather and alloys. There is a 1.7 lak difference between pleasure and prestige versions of the ARIA.Now thats a really huge price difference and one which could be corrected soon due to the XUV effect.Since Aria delhi price were not available i took the nearest state Haryana`s prices in my comparison. The top end ARIA is costlier by 3 lak compared to XUV 4x4.

1) Nice effort.

2) Its too early to judge XUV 500, not even a TBHP review yet unlike Aria. I seriously wish that TBHP reviews Innova also. That would give a much better picture for a comparison IMO.

3) Aria 4X2 has a few structural members removed which is not good.

4) All of the cars here actually lack Euro NCAP safety rating

5) Somehow, on paper atleast, the Innova is showing lack of power. Practically in real world Innova might fare better than what the figure suggests, but Toyota should seriously consider upgrading the engine to 120 bhp approx.

I hope Toyota respond to this challenge by throwing in the Innova with the 3 litre Diesel from the fortuner, add a little razzmatazz to the interior and throw in a few more goodies(Rain sensor, power seats,Touchscreen audio and headrest mounted dvd players, etc). It would be interesting to see the reaction then.

Even now the pick of the lot would be the Innova for its quality and comfort. If only the XUV 500 had a toned down exterior and a better quality interior the XUV it would be.

The Aria is totally of the scale due to it's pricing but its a competent car nonetheless and would sell well if priced better.

This XUV 500 doesn't stop to excite me. I like the fact that it is 270 kgs lighter than the Aria. So I expect its performance to be in Fortuner's range.

One question though Aria 4x4 & 4x2 and XUV 4x4 & 4x2 have the same weight?

Kerb weight of XUV500 is not qouted on their website.Aria 4x2 is comparable to fortuner in 0-100kmph at around 13 secs.Expecting the XUV to be much faster than either TFORT and ARIA since its much lighter.

Aria 4x4 has 4 star Euro NCAP rating ( read it in T-bhp..somewhere)

Aria is longer by 200mm to XUV & Innova which is why it is heavy. XUV to be test driven for overall performance. XUV is Brakes are felt to be not up to the mark.

With reasonable pricing (only compared to Aria)XUV is exciting on paper. realtime results on QC, niggles are yet to be known. In its one year life, Aria other than price seemingly better with least niggles being a Tata car.

A courageous price correction on Aria by Tata with immediate effect will give it a new lease of life to fetch good sales numbers and make the festive season highly comptitive.:thumbs up

Thanks, Nice effort.
Amongst all the SUV, I think XUV500 is the best overall package with good pricing. This car might be the game changer for M&M.

The XUV seem quite VFM compared to the Aria. The Aria 4X4 does have euro ncap certification the XUV?

The safari merlin launch being differed now makes sense.

To me the Aria is an Crossover in MUV disguise while the XUV is a Crossover in SUV look. Ofcourse XUV overall looks better on the outside.

awesome comparison ! appreciate the efforts. but coming to maintenance of the Innova and Scorpio, I believe Innova overtakes every MUV/SUV in that price range. A complete maintenance free and more trust-able engine.

@raj_5004
6 speed gearbox means 5 forward gears and a reverse, right?

Also, XUV500 base variant is Front wheel drive. This is a significant difference from the rest. (read handling)

6 speed normally means 6 forward gears + 1 reverse. And Aria lower versions are FWD while Innova is only FWD.
