I had test driven Safari about a month back.

I had checked the prices on following site that time.
Tata Safari

Although there is no advt on this, I find two changes all of a sudden:

1. Ex showroom prices are reduced by about 20 to 30k in all variants.

2. 4x4 was available only in high end model last time. It seems back into all models now.

How come there is no announcement of any sort from TM on this?

There is certainly an announcement about the price cut. Just yesterday I saw an advert (the usual red Tata Safari plugging through what looked like a cross between corn fields and a marsh :D) stating that the "All New" (sic) Tata Safari now starts at a price of xxxx Lakhs. Come, take a test drive today.

30Kdiscount isn't going to help Safari. Tata would have to discount it by at least 1L to make it competitive in current market with all the new introductions in the pipeline. XUV500 is going to make a big dent in the already bottomed out sales of Safari.

If Tata has re-introduced 4x4 on EX and GX then Merlin Launch will be further delayed.

Its a confused mix on the website. While suddenly the 4x4 is visible in the GW weight line item, in the 4X4 performance section, it still shows only for VX. I also noticed it few days ago, but didn't raise it as I attributed it to someone getting confused in the dept which maintains the websites in Tata. Considering everyone there must be wondering how to react after the M and M salvo, this might just be the start of mistakes there.

30K discount is only for now i guess. Some more might be offered when Merlin is launched. TM had planned to price the Merlin 1-2L higher than Safari models but with the killer pricing of XUV500,it may just try to launch the Merlin at an almost similar price tag of current Safari. At that time,we may see more discounts on Safari and also may be discontinuation of its higher models(VX,GX).
That should be a good move IMO.

TATA must add more features on Safari along with improved interior quality in similar lines with Vista offer Safari 4x2 with reasonable prices
LX at 6.95L
EX at 7.5L

This will also be giving room for Merlin (GX) to start at 8.5L and VX 9.5L

ONLY price reduction at this levels will help the Safari to survive and make decent voulmes 3-4K for TATA:thumbs up

That means you haven't checked the sales chart for September, Safari has leap frogged to more than twice the usual sales, at 1900 units!

But yes I do agree about the discount, even though just a discount might no longer help it's case. BTW, Is it really true that post 2010 Safari's have better reliability and quality?

Had been to KHT motors to check Safari LX and got a Quote with discounts and exchange bonus.

When asked SA about the Price Cuts for Safari and official date of Merlin Launch and its approx price details, His answer was 'No Idea' for all the questions .

:OT I asked for Safari TD. he told the car is not available now and he will get it once it is back, got my cell number too. its been almost 10 days now and no calls yet. will plan to check in Concorde or Prerrena sometime this weekend.

I called up the TATA showroom guys in Noida and asked them if the 4X4 option is now available in the other variants. As per them it is not available in any other model except VX.

Seems like a mistake on the website. However can anyone please confirm if 4X4 Safari is available in EX and GX trim?

Naman

Please do not trust the showroom guys. On anything they say. If at all, they are last people to know about any details of a car they are selling. And to top it all, everyone in the showroom from top to bottom are people who have never ever heard of the INTERNET or any media. Let alone forum such as ours of automobile blogs where you get all the info.

yes that is true I had not seen the sep sales figures. I am surprised at doubling of sales in Sept. There is no logic associated with this increased sales numbers and can only associate it as a temporary blip. There is high chance of it returning back to 1000 levels in Oct-Nov-Dec. Only time will tell.

I, starter of this thread, called it as 'price cut' by comparing charts you have shown with their snapshot 1 month back. I assumed whoever used the word discount are probably referring to the same cut.

I do not know about discount per se. Is there one?

Really? I haven't got to see any Safari ad of late. Which channel/paper/magazine was this?
