Are these OBD Devices will get power when the CAR is switched OFF??

For Autocop trackpro, does it work without SIM?

I think these companies can develop a software to read the Longitude and Latitude from the device and in mobile app or web page they can display easily the location, not sure why internet is required.

The device uses GPS to get latitude and longitude. Infact all of them do.
After that you have two options

• Send SMS to tracker, and it sends back coordinates
• Through 2g/3g, tracker connects to a web page and updates its location every few seconds

In both these cases, you will need a way to communicate with the tracker. Without that, even though the tracker in the stolen car knows where it is, it has no way to communicate the location to you, unless both of you have assimilated into BORG collective and are part of the hivemind, in which case, the tracker is not really needed I guess.

The reviews on google play seem excellent. Also, the differences between products on their website is not clear enough to justify the price difference. Are there recurring charges? If so, how much?

I don't think the big players (map my india, autocop, etc) would provide quality on time assistance. For example, the reviews for MMI's tracker on google play are poor, and it has 3.9 stars only.
I would prefer bhp-ians review any day over any other source.

I bought one of the Chinese GPS trackers (TK103b). I'm very happy with it so far as far as the tracking is concerned.

I'm very skeptical about connecting my fuel supply with the GPS. The implication is that the fuel pump will always get its power routed through the GPS and if for whatever reason the GPS malfunctions, I'll be left with an immobile vehicle. In worse cases, this can happen at high speeds on the highway or in bumper to bumper traffic.

Perhaps we can do the wiring in such a way that the fuel pump (or any other unit routing power through the GPS) can be reactivated manually with relative ease without the involvement of the GPS system. Of course, this has to be done in a way that it is not blatantly obvious to a thief.

I believe that Trak n Tell requires the device to be connected to the OBD port while Autocop would need to be installed by splicing the wires. I am not sure about merits or demerits of having a gps tracker sitting on an OBD port of the car, but some people do have concerns around the same.

From the images available on the website, it does appear that it would require to be installed by splicing the wires.

Also, you could need to put in a SIM card and bear the expenses of data transfer. It may make sense to try out some over the shelf products that are available in the Indian market including Autocop, TraknTell, AutoWiz or Phoenix car security products. You won't have to worry about the warranty and services on the device bought from an Indian company.

I have recently purchased an MMI Rover 201 online from the MapmyIndia site for my new car, which should be delivered by this week. Having used Autocop trackpro TP2000 for the past three and a half years, I can say that their product is very nice. I have had no issues with it so far, it provides proper location with sms alerts and has a practical application. However, I don’t like their renewal process where each time I need to call or email them and submit all the documents post which they take their own time in activating the sim, otherwise I am a very happy customer of it.

This time I wanted to try some other product so went ahead for Rover 201,which cost me Rs. 9990/- , I hope my decision proves right.
I will post a real time comparison of both the products after using MMI for some days. Here is what I received:

AutoCop TrackPro doesn't need any wire splicing just for the tracking function. It can be easily connected to the fuse box using fuse taps. One wire is powered on ignition and the other one pulls power constantly.

In my case, the autocop technician spliced the wires and I use only tracking functionality. May be, he was not educated enough.

None of them are, their installations are crude at best.

He'd initially tied the wires to the fuse legs since I was strictly against any splicing. A few days later I dismantled the whole thing, connected the fuse taps using crimped butt connectors and installed it back in a much neater manner.

Ask on Amazon. Read the reviews. Your question is not answered, but most are simple: you must need to mount the GPS and GSM antennas and connect it to twelve volts. Not rocket science. Hiding the wires and running them is a question of how handy you are and how well hid you want them.

This thread seems to have been inactive for sometime. So I thought I should just take everyone's opinions on this issue. Especially since technology has developed by leaps and bounds since 2012!

So, I recently bought the Hyundai Elantra Sx(o) AT. Unfortunately, the day after my car came, my bullet 500 was stolen, which has led me to turn to TeamBHP for help! I want to know of any anti-theft devices (no steering locks, though) which I can install in my car. A GPS system with an alarm would be great. Maybe like a geo-fencing device. Anyone?
