God bless competition :). These two cars are neck to neck on the monthly sales chart, & somehow ended up sharing the same pavilion entrance:

I'm going to start this report with pictures of what I think is the star of the Chevrolet stall : A beautiful BelAir from the fifties! This car has personality like no other. And she's in such good shape that you'd think they never drove her out of the showroom. A special one that is impossible to get out of your head:

Face-lift Captiva coming soon. A new 2.2 liter engine, 6 speed Automatic and a new face. Features include full-black interiors, cruise control, dual-row HVAC, an electric parking brake, rain-sensing wipers and sun-roof. This one's going to need a better price & value proposition, else it will eventually become an also-ran (just like the current Captiva). The 2.2 is available in two states of tune; 160 & 180 BHP. Hopefully, we get the latter:

Cruze with some more goodies expected soon:

Rear LEDs are Merc-like:

Could do with a better set of alloys. These look outdated, more like they were picked up from a corner shop:

Interiors are "brightened" up and have some miscellaneous enhancements. Note the dual tone dash. The rear seat is still not a match to others from the class:

Rockford Fosgate Audio; expect amp, sub woofer et al:

The Chevrolet Tavera now gets an ICML-sourced 2.0 liter Turbo-Diesel with 106 BHP on tap. Importantly, this engine is BS-IV compliant which allows the Tavera to be sold in the metros:

Slightly different front-end, headlamp detailing et al:

Steering wheel is a size smaller:

The Chevrolet Beat Electric! Power comes from a 300 cell lithium-ion battery with approximately 16 kWh of energy capacity. The 270 kilogram battery can power the Beat EV for ~100 kilometers. The battery is liquid-cooled, and can be charged in 4 hours:

The Spark LPG with a sequential-injection kit was also on display:

Guess what this is? Nope, it's not a car. Rather, it's a Beat-shaped balloon. Stuffed to the gills with helium, and supported by fans on each side (look at the last picture), this Beat can actually remain suspended in the air. Would have been a great marketing exercise if Chevy had let it float in their pavilion:

Lotsa American eye-candy for visitors. The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray concept has scissor-style doors and a hybrid power train:

This car won the Manufacturer’s Championship at the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC) for the past two years. The WTCC is one of only three FIA world championships, along with Formula One and the World Rally Championship:

The Chevrolet Volt is a full-electric vehicle, with energy stored in a 16-kWh, T-shaped lithium-ion battery pack that powers the electric drive unit in all-electric mode for up to 64 kilometers. When the battery’s original energy has been depleted, an on-board range-extending engine-generator, which can be powered by regular petrol or E85 ethanol, generates electricity to power the car:

American muscle being flexed, and how. The Chevrolet Camaro Convertible; the 2SS model on display has a 6.2-liter V-8 with 426 BHP & 569 Nm of torque on tap. If Chevy would revv this engine every 30 minutes, the exhaust note would surely result in 10X the visitors to its pavilion.

The Fun:

WTCC racing video-game with a Logitech G25 steering wheel & 3 LCD monitors. Seat with a 6-point harness. The steering wheel, pedals and seat are mounted on hydraulic cylinders to give you the actual feel of bumps:

And there were 5 regular video gaming seats available too:

Take a shot at guessing why these 40 cameras are lined up the way they are?

Jump in front of them, and the cameras work together to create a 3D image of you. Free to all Chevy stall visitors:

Pre-programmed Chevrolet Robots shook a leg to popular tunes. I saw that the kids really loved it:

The Chevrolet EN-V (short for Electric Networked Vehicle) is a two-seat electric vehicle that weighs less than 500 kilograms and is about 1.5 meters in length. Power comes from 2 electric motors (one on each wheel). Current range is about 40 kms on a single battery charge. EN-Vs can drive & park themselves, even avoiding obstacles in its way using GPS, sensors & continuous communication with other EN-Vs.

Surprised to see no facelifted Cruze like the 'scoop pic' circulating with a new bumper, fogs etc.

The Cruze displayed seems fitted with the freely available (imported) after-market headlights, 7" colour screen plus a RF stereo.

Did GM staff mention that these will become available as a option or is this the facelifted 2012 Cruze?

Seems the new engine (163/184 BHP) is slated for later in the year. Any idea on that?

Did anyone get a closer look at the Chevy Beat Music??

106 BHP in a Tavera - looks like a lot of call centre lives are at risk!

and also the lives of people/commuters on the road!

The new Captiva interiors are not heart winning types. Cruze's modifications are available in after market, and they should have put up some details on the facelifted cruze to be launched.

Will the electric beat and Volt be launched in India?

Don't forsee the launch of them in India in the near future. The Volt was not a success in the US with some issues and buybacks happening in 2011.

Cheers!

Reg cruze, I think the mesh grill looks much better than the one seen on the scoop pic. Though would have loved to see more noticeable differences. Eagerly awaiting the specs of this one.
