Another instance of bureaucratic foolishness is the MV Act 1988 amendment, wherein originally the licencing eligibility for non-geared two wheelers upto 50cc engine capacity was a minimum age of 16 years (completed) as on the date of application.
Bajaj, TVS and other two wheeler makers introduced 50 plus cc engines for the Spirit (Sunny was 50 cc) and the Scooty respectively. To enable children above age 16 years become eligible to drive, the phrase "upto 50 cc engine capacity" was deleted from the MV Act. Today as the law stands children above age 16 are eligible to drive non-geared two-wheelers of any engine capacity, if the respective motor vehicle is non-geared.
So even a 500cc plus two wheeler, non-geared, can be driven by a child who has attained the age of 16!

The sales tax on diesel has been reduced to 16.75% from 18% according to the Karnataka budget presented by the CM. There will be a marginal decrease in the price of diesel.

Audi India Hikes car prices for 2012 models

Hello,

With the recent rise in duties in the budget Audi has increased it's car prices, I don't see much of a hike but someone who has better idea on current prices can give a better picture?

Also I understand there is a Budget related topic but it truly makes sense to have this as a an individual topic, if not someone can merge it.

Audi India Price Hike

I believe CBU's will be the ones with highest price rise?

Regards,

The karnataka govt has increased sales tax on car costing more than 10 lakhs from 14 to 15%, making the all cars above C segment costlier, and karnataka leading the dubious distinction for highest taxed states for all automotive related activities.

First of all taxes are so high in Karnataka. Plus now added to price hike this tax hike will make auto buyers helpless in KA. Not just small cars, even small car price has increased by good amount. I got figo EXI just before hike while OTR was 6.15. Out of that 80K odd was tax!!

Just came back from Ford showroom. The new pricelist shows Figo EXI as 6.28L OTR compared to 6.15L OTR when i booked 15 days back. Thanks to budget hype of price hike, middle of the week came from Bangalore to apply loan and get it cleared within a day. Got car invoiced with Ford on day before budget. 1K well spent on Bangalore Mangalore travel to save 12K effectively

Re: The 2012 Budget & the Indian Car Scene : All you need to know

I had booked a new Honda city corporate edition, on 11 Feb 12 with a promise for delivery on 8 March 12. The delivery of course was delayed and they insisted upon me to upgrade as the CE would take more than a couple of months. I agreed to upgrade the EMT which they promised to deliver by 29th March 12. Now the RR Honda guys are asking me to pay the 5K increase on the car price post the budget. It's not about the extra 5k that i need to pay; it just does not feel right.

I have been threatening to take them to consumer forum but i really am not sure what to do.

Thanks for the timely update Swiftnfurious.

I will be getting the delivery of my new dzire vdi this weekend and I will face the hike of around 12Ks. From 7.29 lakhs to 7.41 lakhs is the price increase.

Thankfully Maruti remained decent enough to make the increases pro rata. Unlike a few instances in the past where the increases have been disproportionate, highly unfavorable to their cash cows like the Swift, Alto et al.

Re: Maruti hikes prices by as much as Rs. 17,000/- post 2012 budget

The new budget policies are to be implemented from April 2012 as the start of a new financial year. However, ever since the budget announcement, Maruti dealers have been informing buyers who have booked cars about price hike.
My friend is about to take delivery of a new Ritz. The showroom called him about the price hike, negotiated the deal in 'old price' and in the process did away with all freebies. They are also forcing him to take a colour they have in stock instead the the one he chose!!

with this hike and added new tax hike in MH budget, a swift VDi would cost approx. 31000 more OTR which, i think, takes it post 7L mark.

NOT all budget policies will be implemented from April. The additional VAT declared by the central government came into effect from 16 Mar 2012 itself.

If your friend's car left the factory before Mar 16, then the OLD prices STAY! For the same matter, if he picks up the stocks which was dispatched before Mar 16, he needs to pay ONLY the old prices, he should get the freebies as well. New prices should be done only on the pieces left after Mar 16.

Mercedes-Benz India Price hikes on all models for 2012

Hello All,

While I have posted this link on another thread, just thought a separate thread might help for those who may not dig into the other thread, Basically with the new hikes in CKD / CBU duties Mercedes has had a massive price hike on their cars, some CBU's like the SLS have a hike of over 40 Lac Ex-Showroom, and in terms of CKD, the cars have a hike of about 3-8 lac rupees,

The C250CDI Avantgarde now in my city costs 40+ OTR.

Lucky those who bought CBU's before March they can sell them at better prices I suppose,

Mercedes Benz India Price Hikes
