That was always expected.

That is why they went for a hike of Rs. 7.5, which is a well planned strategy. If the opposition & regional political parties create a scene, the Government will instruct Oil Marketing companies to reduce prices by Rs. 1.5 or Rs. 2, to keep everyone (except consumer) happy.

Infact the entire hike episode is very well planned. It was done after the parliament session, also the Petroleum MInister is currently travelling to other Contries. Thus ministers like Pranab Mukherjee can simply say that Petrol is a deregulated commofity & Government does not decide on its Pricing.

Thanks,

diesel getting hiked by 5, lpg cylinder to be hiked by 130-150. official announcement coming in shortly

Breaking news: Central Govt. planning reduce the petrol price by up to Rs.3! Now that's a huge relief for all of us. And amidst all this petrol price in Goa is going to get reduced by Rs.11!

What's the relief? It is the usual tactics of government to increase price by 7 rupee and decrease by 1-3 rupees every time so that people believe that they are concerned about common citizens.

Not sure about this but definitely car manufacturers will start selling petrol cars with offers of tankful during delivery. The cars sales will be based on who give the max petrol with the car.

If I am not mistaken, Outlander was offered with petrol coupon for certain period/kilometers

This yo yoing has been seen during every hike, but definitely something to cheer about. I hope the State govts dont get relaxed and stop thinking about the reduction in state taxes on petrol.

I am sure the diesel heads must be chuckling at the ongoing drama. In either case its still the petrol heads who lose.

Well another humour inducing report. Bloomberg in todays article says Oil drops below $90, but our Oil companies says there should be a price increase, isn't that legaly robbing the consumer? :D

In my opinion, it is impossible to implement this. If you double-price diesel at say 70 Rs. for private cars and 45 Rs. for trucks, the truck driver will tank up at a bunk for 200 litres, then come out and start selling those 200 litres in black at say 60 Rs. per litre (still making 15 Rs. per litre)!lol: This strategy is not going to work, at least not in India. Else, this could have been implemented long ago.

I have a different opinion. How many of us will be ready to refuel our cars from black market? It's not practical. They wont have any equipments. They will be selling it in bottles. And if it gets too popular, the cops will catch them. The fuel is more likely to be adulterated too. I don't think any of the car owners will approach these guys on a daily basis to collect some diesel in a can:D. And they're also likely to get punished for buying diesel from black market. So that is unlikely to happen especially since a Rs.10 increase in diesel's price wont affect people in a huge way. I mentioned that in one of the previous posts. The effect of a diesel price hike will be less than that of a petrol price hike because of the mileage factor.

And it's definitely not worth the risk. Even if they sell 100litres a day, they will be earning only Rs.1000 which is nothing when compared to the kinda punishment they're likely to get if caught.

So dual pricing is indeed practical. It might not look so good on theory. But it's somewhat practical I guess. And to me the difficulty in implementing such a system is the only major issue here. We're going a bit off topic since this is not the thread to discuss about diesel price hike.

Something is better than nothing. They're forced to think about bringing it down on the very next day:). That's good news.

The salaries and allowances those people working in the oil companies get is unbelievable. We should protest against that first. I'm mentioning this point again because it's indeed a serious issue.

On a lighter note something from facebook to ease up our tensions

Is the source reliable? To start with, it is difficult to raise diesel price by Rs. 5 / litre; Rs.130 - 150 increase on LPG cylinder will be too hot for them to handle.

The stated reason is the depreciation of rupee vis-a-vis dollar.

Exactly in Mar 2011, the prices were raised by approx 5.something - This was expected.

This is indeed as serious issue as the price rise or loss to govt exchequer!

PSU's have lowest productivity in the world. Over staffed and under worked.
PSU's (YES EVEN O&G ones) have such a huge workforce that its a major cost.

First that cost needs to be cut.
If not, then they have NO right to demand profit. You cannot do public service and expect profit!!!
(If we go by the philosophy that PSUs create employment)

Hello All,

Just read in www.economictimes.com that Crude is at its seven month low at approx USD 90 per barrel.

If Crude Prices are falling since last couple of months, dues this Rs. 7.50 hike in Petrol was really required? Agreed the Rupee has fallen to 56 levels, but I believe that it is basic mathetics that if Crude falls by 10% & US Dollar rises by 10% the final effect is almost nullified.

Today, I also heard almost all financial analysts stating that Petrol Price hike will not help appreciate Rupee, but actually it is Diesel Price hike that will save falling Rupee.

Seems people running Government are insulated from what experts suggest & just go by populist (votebank) measures.

Thanks,
