I think we can absorb the 5 bucks hike in Fuel price . Just use the car less, walk or cycle more and if you still use the same amount of fuel each month, the impact will still be manageable. Too much of a storm in a teacup.
The government must knock off excise, entry tax, octroi and all those horrible state taxes on Fuel. Let there be a flat CST or VAT if they want, but none of these other loads.
And let them then, make both Petrol and Diesel on par with each other at Rs 55 or 60 per litre. I would support such a move!

Its not a question of being able to absorb the hikes everywhere.
And the other forms of commute are just not feasible, at least for me on a personal note.
but hey, that's another discussion altogether.
Speaking for my own self,why the hikes are not fair is because I don't see any proportionate return from the, er,. ....hikers(???)

All I can think of is what percentage of the 5 extra bucks is going to fund the next big "ghotala".
Yes, my taxes give me infra and facilities ,but I feel shortchanged,like I do when I pay for a radio, and find out it only does SW.
There are many petrol price related threads at the moment, but since this one talks about the 7.5 Rs. hike, I am glad to report here that price is going down again (hopefully tonight) by another Rs. 2 or so.

I hope the news is genuine.
So the equation is +7.5-2-2 = +3.5
The 'storm in the tea' actually puts pressure somewhere, I believe.

The Indian crude basket has fallen by almost 10% in INR terms yet we are talking of reductions around Rs.2/- while the increase was more than 10% when it was increased the last time around.
Brent is at its lowest over the last 4 years yet our Petrol prices are at its highest ever.

You're right my friend but don't forget the INR is trading in a range of 55-56 to the US$ (that is more than 20% depreciation from the range just over an year ago). That's the reason you will not see petrol prices go down at the pump in line with the crude prices.

The 10% drop is in INR terms compared to the last fortnight. If not for the falling Rupee value we should have been having a petrol price atleast 20% lesser than what it is today.
Shell prices now for normal petrol is 77.70/l. (reduction Rs 2)

So shell is now cheaper than PSU pumps ? that too two rupee ?
UPA is busy with pushing for their president. no time to reduce prices.
One interesting thing to note that after this Rs.2/- reduction, the net hike of Rs.7.50 would come down to almost 3.50 to 4.00 Rupees but the damage it has caused to the resale value of the used Petrol cars and new Petrol car sales is simply irreversible.
90 paise is all it goes down now. I was wondering if i made the right choice with my ANHC. But what with the deisel vehicles to cost a steep high?

If your daily runs are short then it wont affect much. If however you have to travel long distances on a daily basis diesel works out cheaper. Ive shifted to using the ANHC daily as its giving better mileage over the santro and plus daily run is almost 30kms up and down.

I am just thinking aloud.
Wouldn't using a bigger car more frequently result in more maintenance?

I dont think so. The kms get added fast yes thereby reducing the gap between services. But my running isnt that much. My santro has covered only 32k kms in 7 years. And the ANHC is just a few months old. So it wont affect that much i guess. Plus its much more comfortable to drive a bigger car.
