Due to Petrol hike of 7.5 Rs, car market has suffered a lot. It reflected in the sales of cars in the months of April and May. Now Petrol prices are to the almost same level which were before the hike. But the damage has been done. Also it has damaged the sentiments of the car buyers. I don't think petrol car market will come back to normal levels now as people are worried about the Petrol prices, they know that it can go up anytime soon. If petrol prices would have not increased so much suddenly, may be car market would have not suffered that much IMHO ;)
I was anticipating this reduction, so two days ago I only filled for Rs 500 when my tank was nearing empty.
I missed on filling an empty tank on the day prices were increased by 7.50 Rs, due to sudden rush and madness at petrol pump.
Shell prices in Bangalore is 76.10/ l for normal unleaded petrol. Not much of difference compared to the Psu's.
Cheers!

Exactly. I bet the sales of petrol cars in june would have taken a heavy hit. People now dread to look at petrol cars now and unless we see a huge drop in price of petrol(which is again very improbable), manufacturers can no longer think about encashing money by sellimg petrol cars. Also, petrol cars in C and D segment can be regarded as gone.
Heard that subsidy on diesel may he removed after the Presidential polls. Any thoughts to whether it may reduce petrol prices?
There was an increase by 88 ps since today in Kerala. What is happening?

4Rs i highly doubt although it wouldnt surprise me since the govt is basically offsetting the losses on Diesel/LPG by screwing the petrol users. Basically the govt are shooting themselves in the foot here.
Increase in petrol price == people buying more diesel cars == Govt subsidy increases. Dont know where this is going to end. :Frustrati

Totally Agree - Govt still treats diesel as a "poor man's" fuel whereas petrol is a rich man's fuel.
So a 2-wheeler is considered rich and a diesel BMW/Merc Owner is considered Poor:Shockked:.
Inflation is already too much and rising every month. I would really support deregulation of prices and heck we might have one more inflation owing to increase in diesel prices. As pointed out maybe the tax can be a fixed amount like Rs 5 per litre so that burden on customer is less rather than a % of taxes.

I feel like shooting myself in the foot now  having an all petrol garage. When everyone stops buying petrol vehicles and there is complete stoppage of use of petrol vehicles, i wonder what the government will then do? Increase LPG prices to recover subsidy on diesel? Indian leaders are so myopic. They are only going to put the country in debt. The situation is just getting from bad to worse.

Hello Parthasarathig,
Yes, we have only to blame ourselves, for not understanding the tread & not switching to Diesel cars almost two years back. Now the second hand Diesel Market is very tight & dealers are making the most money here.
But the situation you have pointed (people not buying petrol car at all) will not happen . Because at any given point of time, there are people ready to buy Petrol Cars (especially used petrol cars), though the numbers are declining. Also there are huge number of cars currently running on Petrol, who have no option but to continue burning Petrol at increased rates. But yes, the situation is going from bad to worse both on subsidy & pollution.
Thanks,

With the current prices i feel running a diesel hatch is much more price saving than riding bikes. My friend now sold off his ZMA saying that his polo was cheaper to run and on top of that the added safety of a car.
Its my ego to be blamed and my shortsightedness. And yes we as a whole are to be blamed. There is no unity among our countrymen. Imagine if we were united and stopped buying petrol altogether, the government would be forced to reform its policies.
All i ask is stop buying petrol for 1 week and see how parliament attendance increases. This economy is so unstable, that the slightest hint of a pull in the purse strings of black money of our government will force them back to public service and not public domination and cheating and corruption.
However this being India, we all shall complain about all the inconveniences we will face if we cant travel by car; bike and have to take public transport etc. Noone will think of the greater good that it will benefit you and me and everybody else in the long term.
Which is why all the anti corruption movements like Jaago re and Anna Hazare have all failed because we Indians are selfish and think only how situtations will affect I, me and myself than everybody else.
As long as this Bickering and oointing fingers, continues we shall only continue to say India is a bad country and outside is better, rather than try to reform our motherland make it better for ourselves. Crime and corruption goes unpunished. I guess that should be the first thing we should reform.
On a positive note, Ive however taken to public transport and actually enjoy it since it takes the same time to reach my destination without worrying about idiots on the road.
I guess if everyone asked himself, "What have i done today for my country?" soon we would start to see good results.
Govt. planning to raise fuel prices after monsoon session.
Quote:
.......State oil firms are putting pressure on the ministry to act, particularly after Indian Oil Corp recently reported the highest-ever quarterly loss by an Indian company. Total quarterly loss of state refiners exceeded 40,000 crore.
Diesel is expected to be costly by 4-5 a litre and petrol rates could be raised by 3 a litre, officials said. "Price hike is inevitable, but the timing and quantum of hike would be politically decided after the monsoon session," an official said, requesting anonymity. The monsoon session of Parliament will end on September 7.
The government may spare kerosene but raise cooking gas prices between 50 and 100 and restrict the number of cylinders per household in a year to minimise revenue loss on fuels.......

It was expected. With Govt. unable to compensate the oil cos. they have put up huge losses. Either it is going to be fixed or the cos. will go the AirIndia or BSNL way. Good that Govt. is planning to fix the situation.

Government plans to hike diesel, petrol prices next month - The Economic Times
If the oil companies had been corporates, they would have by now started looking inwards and got rid of the junk that exists within.
Veritable wells of expense that cannot exist anywhere except sarkar.
Let the officials manage their own cars, drivers and homes. Compensate them as per their entitlement, of course.let them have the rent for a house, a car and driver, but let them do it by themselves.
Get rid of the people who come in at 11 and leave at 4 with a 2 hour lunch break. Educate the computer illiterates who dont even know how to use an online news service, but hold up a report because their assistants are pulling up the news, printing it, and THEN saab will see and scribble.
2 days, full, GONE!!
Let their jobs be on the line to face the loss.
Sad commentary that no-one either in the ministry or the companies worries about how to recoup. They have found a shortcut solution, copied and pasted over and over and over, that of screwing my happiness.
Had they been in charge, to whatever extent that they are, maggi would cost 100bucks a pop!!
I feel more than the current rulling Government, there are vested interests who would like to keep the diesel prices subsidized.
Yes the political parties (be the one in power or not) will always try to keep Diesel Prices subsidized in name of poor man fuel (votebank politics), but I feel the lobbies of various Industries are also pushing hard for keeping the Diesel subsidies at current level. This is because subsidized Diesel as a fuel for power generation is used by most industries especially by Mobile, Transport & Manufacturing plants. Any hike in Diesel Price will impact their input costs, which will never be accepted.
Thanks,
