Wow!!! However I read in Overdrive April 2006 issue page 52 that it will cost approx 10 lacs in India. Now that's steep. It cannot be thus called Esteem's replacement.

Saw on NDTV; on a program related to cars; and a talk with MUL guy. He says that Europe needs a compact car and it will be available soon and that it would be a petrol engine one and that it will be also available in India.

SX4 shares chassis etc of Swift?

Could be... in fact it looks like a play on the same Swift. They have just changed the broad outline of the car. By the way I doubt whether a sedan based on SX4 will really be of much use. It will end up being another esteem wo much space, particularly in the rear. Look at those pics of the interior. IMO the space at the rear, between the two rows, is not so great. The moment the dfront row is pushed back a little the rear passenger will scrape his knees.

The official said that export to EU frm India has infact decreased and he wanted to increase it. His solution is the new car which would be produced here and exported. And hence another new petrol car for India.

SX4 sedan - The new MUL sedan ?

This is adding to the umpteen speculations on the new MUL sedan .. and whether either or both the Esteem and Baleno will be replaced. Auto mags are talking about the SX4 sedan being the possible replacement.
Could this then be hitting the Indian car scene next year ?

Hmmm. Would be nice if Suzuki brought in some new cars (with more oomph, safety etc) and took on the Hondas, Fords and Chevys. Speculation is rife (as it has been for years) about Esteem/Baleno being discontinued. But as it is with MUL, only time and certain people at Suzuki can tell for sure.

If only they also brought in the Suzuki Twin to take on the so-called Tata 1-lac car. That would be one nice bet for the city commute.

Check out the Sept Autocar, it has "scoop" pics of the new Baleno...based on the SX4 platform. The front has L shaped lights, no shots of the rear though

That is one ugly looking sedan. Pity, since it comes from the SX4, which is gorgeous. Hate that front quarter glass - makes the car looks like something that came from Lada's design bureau.

Oi, Darling!! I hate to break this to you, but the snaps you saw are spy shots of a disguised car. Try to look beneath the ugly cloaking, & you'll see some damn good lines.

I like it already - 143bhp from a 2.0 twin-cam Suzuki mill - where do I sign up ???
