New Chevrolet Spin MPV : Possible Ertiga rival(?)

Based on the Cobalt, the Spin is Chevy's new compact MPV meant for emerging/developing markets in South America and Asia. Developed and designed by GM Brazil, this car could give the Ertiga a healthy competition if and when launched here. Isn't exactly a looker,at least on first sight, and Chevy says it can squeeze five or seven occupants, depending on the trim level. However interiors shown here look a bit too basic and simply lack any sort of desirability appeal to be successful in India. The dash looks pretty nifty though, surely can be worked upon to be more appealing to Indian tastes. Only one engine option available, a 1.8 litre EconoFlex four pot petrol. No diesel.Yet.

If priced right, this segment is going to be hotter as the seven seat concept and the available space is appealing for the young and not so young alike. If you go back in time, Omni was appealing than the M899 to too many.

Probabl, Mods may merge this thread to the existing one on Ertiga rivals.

One of the reasons that the Ertiga is a hit is that it carries the Maruti tag. I wonder if a GM product will be able to really counter it. All things being equal, GM will really have to undercut a Maruti product for it to make an impact in the Indian market.

Why have this when we have the booti-ful Wuling here?

It's enough of such market specific cars now! Let's have some truly global products. Hate it when some manufacturers take us forward where as others make us live in the same old cassette in the age of iPod. In such point of view, Ford is making huge strides considering their "One Ford" strategy and see they have already brought their global Fiesta and Ecosport!

Do we Indian's really deserve these "stripped" down

versions?

Coming to the Spin, it looks dowdy, misaligned, most importantly stupid stupid stupid with that plastic cladding. First thing that sparks off in my mind upon seeing the spin,

It was completely developed by GM do Brazil based on Gamma II(Sonic/EU Aveo) Platform. I'm skeptical about GM Brazil lending GM India it's wondeer-ful creation off parts bin.
