Jaguar's new entry level luxury sedan for India

To take on the likes of BMW, Audi and Merc, Tata owned Jaguar plans a new sedan in the 25 to 30 lakh segment. Here is a link-

They used to have an entry level Jag in the US which was nothing but a re-badged Ford with plusher interiors. It kind of diluted the Jaguar brand. I hope Tata doesn't make a similar mistake.

It will be very interesting. Competition for the A and B-klasse, as well as 1 series.

Re: Jaguar's new entry level luxury sedan for India

I doubt they will. They do have the likes of the 3-series, A4 and the C-Class to compete with.
At that segment they'll also be looking at a fair amount of volume. If they want to be anywhere near the Germans, they would have to launch something which:
- looks amazing
- Is priced at the same level if not a notch lower than the competition
- And with a reasonably powerful and efficient oil burner.
Their current line up are only CBU's. If they start assembling here, it will be a major plus point.
If they're only a year away from the launch they would have to have some kind of concept of the car ready and viewable. I'm worried that they don't. Hope they don't make a wreck of it.

Quite a few of the jags are based on the Mondeo platform and the cheaper ones are glorified fords. That said, most Audi's are glorified vw's so don't know if it is necessarily a bad thing

Only the X Type was based on the Ford Mondeo, when Jaquar was owned by Ford.

Most smaller jags are just an evolution of that platform. Of course now that jag is owned by Tata they cannot and are not rebadging fords. However my point was rebadging is not necessarily a bad thing if done correctly.

Of course tata don't have anything that jag can rebadge so must assume that jag is now back to doing their own r&d.

LOL, as long as it doesn't share a platform with a Tata Manza, it should be fine.

Would be an interesting compare between the A4/3/C/mini Jag/Volvo

Jags always have so much soul !

I hope they don't involve Tata Motors into this development.

If packaged neatly, they could find a winner. Indians are always looking to flaunt new premium brands. With the Audi, Benz and BMW growing old in the market, Jaguar could just spice it up.

Re: Jaguar's new entry level luxury sedan for India

Will it be an all-new sedan or just the XF diesel with 2.2L engine as an entry level Jag? XF diesel with 2.2L engine can probably be priced similar to the 520d.

Ratan Tata rules out manufacturing Jaguar and Land Rover (JLR) in India.

Re: Jaguar's new entry level luxury sedan for India

The report is slightly misleading, gives a feeling that its an India specific car. Its a now known that Jag needs a 3-series/C class (the compact executive segment) target market car. Their XF is in the 5-Series/E-class category. Besides, the previous Jag entry in the compact segment was sort of a misnomer, as it was a Ford Mondeo/ front drive based car and Jags need to be driven by their hind legs.

Hopefully the new car will remedy that. But its a new car at a worldstage not specific to India.
