Quote:

Tata is working on a Mini Aria owing to competition from Ertiga and Quanto. It is still in development phase and would take at least an year to come on road. The 2.2 DICOR engine is best suited, but that would make the Mini Aria more expensive, so Tata is planning on the 1.3 Fiat engine. Tata is supposedly suprized by the 5000 bookings in less than 3 weeks of the Qunato Launch. Tata has realized the potential of a Sub 4m SUV and is encashing on the same.

They would need to shorten the platform significantly even beyound that of the Safari and I guess mount the spare wheel on the back and hence make the rear door open sideways. Plus shorten the front bumper as well as reduce the ride height significantly plus with the Indian buyer prefering a more Sport rather than Sedate/Sober Look (SUV rather than MUVish) they would have to make the vehicle more agressive looking.

I guess though they may use some bits of the suspension, interiors and body panels the number of changes called for would be so significant (including the engine, transmission and features as well) that this would nor really be a mini Aria. But rather more like an enlarged Vista with third row seating (like in the case of Ertiga coming from the Ritz and swift). I believe there have been snaps of one of these on TBHP. Besides it has already been reported that they are planning for something in the Ecosport / Duster segment but if one takes on the Quanto/ Ertiga we are then talking about 2 last row jump seats as well.

Isnt it easier to work with the Manza platform rather than shortening the X2 ? The Quanto is a good vehicle but most of its draw backs are derived from the body on chassis construction. Why is TATA taking the same route ?

The best thing for TATA to do would be to go for the SUMO GRANDE as the donor vehicle. They've already done enough on the ARIA launching a stripped down version, it's the GRANDE that is facing extinction, sandwiched between the SUMO GOLD and Old SAFARI. It'll do them good to pull out the GRANDE, complete the surgery and launch it at the same price, and while they are at it, they could also do without the leaf springs at the rear and call the vehicle the SIERRA ;-)

Isn't this same as what GTO had mentioned in Karl Slym thread - "tata monocoque sub 4m suv on manza platform in the design phase" ? I don't think the 1.3L MJD is going to be good for a shortened Aria. More than that, it's better for tata to use a totally new badge rather than carrying the Aria badge for the new product. They better learn their mistakes on 'Indica' vista & 'indigo' manza!

Just today I read in 'Dainik Bhaskar' that Tata is going to launch 6 new cars in the coming year. This would include the refreshed variants plus some completely new models.

A few PS illustrations I had done earlier, never thought Tata Motors were actually thinking on the same lines :D :

As far as the looks go, we can be rest assured that it'll put all the Quantos out there to shame. Those are some nice renders ashutoshb.

If the design is on the lines of what Ashutosh has posted, it will rock the party. One Butch looking car there.

Excellent illustrations ashutosh. I would definitely go for your design when compared quanto ugly duck back :-)

Brilliant rendering ashutoshb!!.
Definitely killer looks compared to the Quanto.

Out of curiosity did you make illustrations of quanto? To compare what could have been and what came out :-)

Why Why Why... Tata if you ever listen to your customers its the right time for you to re launch the Tata Sierra, with a 2.2 Dicor CRDI. Believe me it will rock sales for you and still put you within the 4 meter length (if you manage some trimming). Just mordernize the older Sierra platform, give it bells and whistles from the new Safari or Aria, and you shall zoom to the top.

Infact keep this new short Aria for competing with the Quanto, however the new Sierra will be a cult car, with 4x4 to compete with the Thar even

Tata Motors surely seems to be on the "Rise".:D

One can actually sense the change that they are bringing about in their ways of working now, be it, launches, concepts or vendor management.

The mini Aria, if launched, can easily take on that ugly duckling Quanto and if TML manages to make it as spacious as the Ertiga (Space has always been TML's forte) and equally lighter, it will certainly be an active player in the market.

Excellent rendering, ashutoshb! :thumbs up. The car looks sporty and mean, more so in black and much better than the existing Aria. If parked next to the Quanto, the Mahindra would look even more odd and awkward than it is now. Tata are surely way ahead of Mahindra when it comes to design, though their "family look" of a smiling face and Christmas tree lights look dated and boring now.

It looks like Karl Slym is beginning to work his magic @ TM. New products would increase sales for sure, but not by much, unless Tata drastically improve their product quality, reliability and after-sales service. It remains to be seen if Mr. Slym can improve things dramatically on these fronts, as he has to struggle against the established culture at TM and their dealers. If he does not succeed, then Tata would permanently relinquish the No. 3 spot and their products would slowly disappear from the radar of private buyers.

I must admit , that does look very nice. thank you Ashutosh for sharing. The ARIA was always a nice looking car marred by lofty pricing and lack of fit and finish specially for the segment it is slotted at. TATA price it right , give it equipment and just match no need to beat Mahindra in quality and see this getting good acceptability.
