That is very good pricing indeed. However what I don't understand is how come the TDI ends up costing more than the TSI even though the ex showroom is lesser. Why is that insurance is 4k more for the diesel ?

Engine size is an influencer on insurance premiums.
And I am more curious as to how come it has hit the showroom and there was no "sound" made about it in the media/press. There should have been some press release regarding the same.

I think the insurance also takes into account the engine capacity right?
Now I know am being greedy but being one of the costliest hatches available in our market today, how soon can we expect VW to start offering some discount on these cars?
Not sure how would the new Polo TSI owners take this news!
Pricing seems on par with the TSI. Sadly no DSG or even a normal Auto box as an option.
Sad on VW's part that dealers rolling the cars off the showrooms without an official launch.
One word.. Petrol Turbo+DSG >> Diesel Turbo :) Even with the increased displacement, dont expect it to outrun the TSIs.
Even after tune the story is similar. Diesel will give a better shove but overall the TSI should be able to outrun it.
9.25 is an excellent price though.. for the 2nd diesel hot hatch(first being punto 90hp)...
Interesting pricing but clearly the TSI appears to have the upper hand when it comes to the overall configuration and the features...
Great pricing. Surely tsi will have the edge but this one is going to be a big hit. We always have a special love for oil burners. Dsg will be sorely missed though. Otherwise the gtd would've been the perfect hot hatch IMO.

Hi
But if it's the vento/rapid engine, it should be much faster right?
And with a remap it should easily be quicker than the 1.8 tsi.
It should be fuel efficient as well with city mileage of 14 and highway 17.

As it has been discussed couple of pages back, there is not much weight advantage that Polo has over Vento. Only thing is that you are getting a fully loaded Vento minus legroom and boot at a much lower price point.
If VW releases this 'Cross Polo' with 1.6 TDI that will be excellent. But even better will be a real mini crossover on this platform, a-la Ecosport.

I don't think VW will be offering them anytime soon. The TSI outdid their expectations and the TDI will most probably too. If you want one,get into line quickly :)

But if it's the vento/rapid engine, it should be much faster right? Why, the vento/rapid are not any faster. It makes the same 105Ps as the Polo Tsi but with heavier front end and a manual gearbox. Besides the weight difference is marginal between polo and vento
And with a remap it should easily be quicker than the 1.8 tsi. I really dont think so. Its not an apples to apples comparison. Besides if you do the same remap for the 1.8Tsi it will do circles around the Polo.

But having said that, this car will definitely do great numbers in India as we are a mileage centric diesel market.
The 1.6 TDI will score over the TSI for those who need a hot hatch to cruise the highways , with diesel fuel and better mileage equals lower running costs. Those who may go for the 1.6 TDI with primary use in the city will have a fun car with plenty of power and torque, losing on driving experience of the TSI, but will keep them happy with comparatively lower running costs, as the Vento itself has a decent mileage , the 1.6 TDI having an advantage of lower kerb weight will probably deliver better mileage.
