Tata Vista D90 Extreme Crossover Concept

Came across this link at ACI :

http://www.autocarindia.com/News/330...-unveiled.aspx

seems Tata Motors is now taking things seriously and injecting some much needed pizzaz & desirability quotient into their humdrum lineup. Report says the 1.3 MJD has been tuned to pump out 104 Ps and this concept has been given bigger 15-inch shoes.

All good luck to TML. No reason why the Vista cannot sell more. It is a very decent hatch indeed.

re: Tata Vista D90 Extreme Crossover Concept

More than the car, I'm more interested in the performance of the 1.3 Multijet with its bumped up figures. Anyone knows the new torque output of this engine in the crossover?

Looks good but then all most all TATA concepts look cool. Hope it makes it to live production though it is unlikely.

Yep TATA needs to add fizz to its product line up soon.

Why are they calling it a crossover? Would like to see the swingarm (yet behind the tail gate) wheel mount

It does have a swingarm and the spare on the hatch door as it is seen in this pic on motorbeam.com

re: Tata Vista D90 Extreme Crossover Concept

Vista in the above pic looks an ugly duckling. A hatch with tyre mounted on the rear, what are designer at Tata Motors thinking. Opening the boot will be a herculean task and you would also require extra space in rear to accommodate the tyre bulging.

Though they are bumping up the power figures to nearly 104 PS, but does the car have proper stability & handling to go with it. With great power comes greater responsibility.

Another why isn't Tata letting off the old Indica/Vista platform and develop a all new platform. For how many years do they want to drag it on for. Do they wish to die a slow death.

I owned a 2003 Indica and it was a very good car but don't think I would like to own a same design/platform car in 2013 or in near future.

Wake up Tata before its too late.

re: Tata Vista D90 Extreme Crossover Concept

Good move by TML and I definitely want to see this on road pretty soon !
This would easily be up against Skoda Scout, Polo crossover, Ford Ecosport and Quanto.

One more suggestion may be, if the trunk space is beefed up similar to "out gone" Marina, thats the best and I am sure, a lot like me want to see "Marina" kind of estate comes back, from TML !

Prem.

For some reason, I think the overall design of the Indica Vista is still UGLY. And no extra muscle can make it look as good as segment benchmarks like Swift and Polo.

With respect to exteriors,

Indica Vista = dressed up first gen Indica
Indigo Manza = Indica Vista + rectangular "dabba" boot
Aria = Huge Indica Vista
Crossover = Dressed up Indica Vista on stilts

This is what I've heard from many of my friends. Not discounting the progress made since the first gen car, but the exteriors are all too similar. Tata needs to breathe some new life into their products, maybe a new hatch which looks nothing like the Indica.

re: Tata Vista D90 Extreme Crossover Concept

Cross Polo exists in overseas markets so getting in here with some tweaking makes sense. But attempting to make a cross vista nearly bottom-up doesn't cut the cake.

Bumping up the power and increasing GC on the existing Vista without getting a rear mounted spare wheel would make more sense. Get rid of the countless variants, have couple of variants (including this) in the current line up might help extending the shelf life.

Leather seats or black cladding on the bumpers and roof rails are purely cosmetic.

re: Tata Vista D90 Extreme Crossover Concept

Tata's should leave the American expressive, expansive car designs to tight european designs. I believe Storm is a move in that direction. They have built a tighter Safari. Challenge for Tata Motors in future is how to manage tread width, chassis torsion & dynamics and impart a lot more solidity to it's products rather than just making some grand looking cars but with a whole lot of rubbish inside. Now rubbish is qualitative. It is rubbish inside (electricals, some key mechanicals) only when compared to opposition. Otherwise when you compare it to run of the mill ambasssadors, Sipanis, some poorly built Marutis, it's all the same. Challenge is to climb this ladder.

& and way these cars appear is important. They made a statement when they came out with Indica V1, but they show extreme reluctance to move up that scale.

re: Tata Vista D90 Extreme Crossover Concept

More pictures have been added by ACI . Here's the link:

http://www.autocarindia.com/Gallery/...t-gallery.aspx

The side profile view is odd. Not gelling well with the overall "roundish" shape of the VISTA. A more "edgier" looking VISTA would have possibly pulled off the Crossover look better.

Also, looking at the size of the brake disc diameter, one wonders whether TML is running stock VISTA brakes. Maybe on the concept they have this , if the car hits production, hopefully they'll upgrade to bigger discs.

Gap between tyres and wheelarches is big enough to park a Nano. Of course, one should not be judgemental from now, if this is an indicator of potential wheel articulation range, then "off-road" ride should be very good.

Seats look quite delectable. As for the instruments, personally, would have preferred a white dialled insrument panel with red-lit needles.

Also looks like the "donor car" for the concept was a red coloured VISTA. Note the engine bay picture, where you can see the red front suspension strut towers! Deliberate or someone forgot to paint it ?

Its not about 'platform'. Its about the body shell and 'image' you create with it.

Classic example is Fortuner which shares Innova's platform.
Look at fiat's international lineup, almost every car is based on Punto platform.

All Tata needs is innovative designers.

You do whatever you want to, a crow will always be a crow. It can never become a cookoo. A mere cosmetic and some minor technical enhancements cannot make it a crossover with off-road capabilities. All the best to Tatas.

For the engine tune that they mentioned, this car definitely needs bigger discs, and that too on rear wheels as well. I just hope they upgrade from drums that are available in Vista.

Rear mounted spare definitely adds to the SUV look, but it should have had a flat hatch at the rear instead of the slanting one in Vista to completement the spare wheel. Side profile clearly shows how ugly and out of place that spare is with a slanting rear windscreen!

I'm not sure if the new 16" wheels would fit in the spare wheel well of the current Vista thanks to the larger diameter. It could be a necessity that made Tata to move the spare out of the boot instead of extending the length of the car to get a bigger boot.
