Tata Nano emax CNG to be launched on 8th October, 2013

The Tata Nano emax CNG will launch in India on October 8th.
IAB is reporting the launch to take place in Ahmedabad next week.

There are changes to the expected model from the Nano emax shown at the Horizonext event in June this year
  • Instrument cluster gets new colors, with green being predominant, highlighting the car’s low CO2 emissions.
  • A larger steering wheel will be offered in the CNG Nano.
  • The overall seating position would be a bit higher due to the placement of the CNG tank underneath the front seats.
  • The mobile charger output will not be offered.
  • Two variants will be available – CX and LX.
  • A fire extinguisher will be provided on the car.
  • The fuel level indicator indicates petrol when running on petrol and likewise when running on CNG.
  • The CNG tank is 8 litres in volume (there are two 4 liter tanks) and can easily hold 5-6 kg of CNG. They are situated below the driver seat.
  • The CNG tank is specially built for the car and manufactured in-house by Tata Motors.
  • The Nano emax will be built to order.
  • The car will automatically switch to petrol once the CNG is depleted.
  • Dealers estimate a price increase of about INR 40,000.

Thanks for sharing sarathlal!
So finally it is here and if the pricing is 40k above the normal petrol powered Nano, I find it really good. But I hope Tata actually sticks to what the dealer has mentioned and not create a mess with the pricing.
I don't have much info regarding CNG kits. Can someone please tell me roughly how many kms would a 8litre tank last?
Thanks

Looking at nano's fuel consumption a full tank of CNG should give a range of 150-180 KMs.

CNG is filled as Kilograms not Litres, so if these tanks translate to 5-6 Kgs max, any average CNG filling station will be able to squeeze not more than 5kg
(high pressure, if lucky). If the car does 20-22km to a KG in dense traffic, i guess the range should be 100-130kms.

The point is that equivalent range to a hatchback running on CNG will be almost similar even if it takes in 6 kgs of gas. I am pretty sure it will return upwards of 25 km/kg. Tata claims 36 kms/kg!

Hi anshuman
I am aware of the fact that CNG is filled as kgs and not litres. My 97 esteem carb has 10kg CNG cylender fitted into it. It takes aprox 7.5kgs of CNG if pressure at CNG pump is 200 bar. I am getting an average of 24 KM/kg on CNG which is almost 50% more than what i get on petrol which is 16.5km/ltr. So i am assuming nano should return ~27km/Kg on CNG as it delivers ~ 18 on petrol. So if it takes 6 kgs of gas it will easily run 150+ kms before one has to refill. Hope this helps.
