| ![]() I have noticed quite a few Cielos recently though in Tamil movies where the car needs to be crashed :-) (either being chased by teh hero or chasing the hero - in Dasavatharam, it gets flooded in a sunami) |

Distinguished - BHPian ![]() ![]() | ![]() The Cielo (modelled on the old Opel Kadett) was a great car of its times. It scored over its competitor the Esteem on many points.Actually Maruti upgraded its 1000 with the peppier 1298 cc engine to ward off competition. The Opel Astra and Ford Escort soon came along and created a big competition in the C segment. ![]() ![]() Daewoo , the chaebol however succumbed to its own corporate deeds that saw it crumbling. |

| ![]() My uncle has a 95 model(I'm not sure whether its a 95 or 98 model)Grey Opel Astra Club with sunroof. He has maintained it in a pristine condition. Its still one of the best looking sedan. I just love its design. It has run close to 2.5 lakh kilometers and is capable of clocking even more. He hasn't faced a single niggle with it. |

| ![]() As someone already poined out, I have seen Cielos in movies for action scenes where car need to be blown out of ditched in a deep gorge. Believe me, there are lot of old rusty Astras in rural parts of Punjab fully loaded with people with some parts missing or swapped from other cars e.g. tail lamps, head lamps etc. I am sure their petrol engines are swapped by diesel by desi-mechanics. OT- i used to drool on an Astra Club of the owner of my teaching instituition back in school days. |

| ![]() Me and my buddy were discussing about Chevy SRV last week. I used to see 3-4 SRV's in Mulund area when the car was being sold. Now its a rare sight too.How about Zen D and Esteem D? My friend has Fiat Uno 2000 and has done around 1.5L kms. Car still runs fine and I get very nostalgic feeling when I sit in that car. |

| ![]() I wonder if the master blaster still uses the Opel Astra he won in the 1998 Sharjah cup played against Australia. It was on his 25th birthday, India won the series and Sachin man of the match and the man of the tournament. Source : 1, 2 My dad used to own a Cielo, sold it at half the price it was bought, 4 yrs later when the company got into trouble. Incidentally I happened to see the car still running on Bangalore roads very recently, close to almost ten years later now. It was pleasing to see it being fairly well maintained. ![]() Last edited by Neur0t0xin : 8th September 2012 at 16:01. |

Distinguished - BHPian ![]() ![]() | ![]() Sold my Cielo about 3/4 years back after 11 years of ownership - It was a superb vehicle - GLX AT -top end was years ahead of the option in the market then. Had given it a fresh coat of paint a couple of years prior to the sell off, but then the steering just broke in my hands and I had to get it replaced with the ordinary one without airbags and the absence of support meant that I could not get the engine tuned properly and it developed a habbit of suddenly accelerating without input. Was hard to maintain - Sold it for Rs. 34,000 then. Am told by the agent that the buyer too could not find much use for it and that it was scrapped. Keep seeing the Cielos being used in Film accident and blow up scenes. Cielo was my first love and the first car that I picked up soon after getting my job. Was the car in which I took my fiance out the first time. Had many fond memories of the car. |
