Its unfair to provide roadside assistance only for the customers who are buying this year. What sin we did of buying in earlier years and not being provided this benefit?

Providing assistance on paper is one thing; how they actually execute this is a different ball game.

Case in example - my friend's Captiva.

1. Once it showed low oil warning and we called them up. Guys promptly came, refilled oil, could NOT find any fault, gave the bill for oil top up (which was 4L or so out of the total 7L capacity IIRC) and also a good bill for the distance the road side assistance team drove!

2. The car refused to start another time when they were visiting a relative. Called up the road side assistance, they came promptly and were trying to understand "the light" that was glowing. After a good inspection, the guy comes and tells - "we don't know what is wrong with the car; we will tow it to the A$$ and diagnose the problem"!

So much for their assistance program.

This is all a part of the marketing drive to better sales. If you buy during high demand time or off-season, you will NOT be able to make the most out of such things.

In the previous year, you, at all probability have paid a lesser price for the car. What sin did others commit to pay a higher value this year?! Grass is greener on the other side always, isn't it?!

What is the timeline (ETA for assistance) that they promise? That is the most crucial factor when it comes to roadside assistance. It doesn't matter if they cover dead battery or flat tyre if it would take them 6 hours to reach the spot of breakdown.

That is one of the reasons why Maruti's roadside assistance beats others hands down. They have a huge network where any spot is just an hour or two away from their workshop. How is Chevy going to tackle that?

You can't beat Maruti roadside assistance. I was locked out with keys inside the car just outside Bangalore city. I then called the helpline which informed the nearest mobile unit and gave me their mobile number. I called the mobile unit personnel and gave them the directions. They arrived in about 45 min and took about 20 min to open the door of the car. They charged me a princely sum of Rs. 250/-. Amazing to see their response and the fees they charge is far less than what workshops charge for 30 min of Mechanic effort.

Re: A 24x7 Roadside Assistance Program by Chevrolet India

This realization of customer service has come too late. They have already lost ground. The new launches have not been able to excite the market.

Companies operating in India must realize that customer service should be given paramount importance if they plan to stay in India else, be prepared to get wiped out.

None of the product launched by General Motors have been able to sustain the market enthusiasm for a longer time. The very reason for it is lack of support. Before launching a product, the companies do focus on the target market but they fail to realize that in India vehicles run on very different terrains unlike their own home ground.

Has anyone purchased it? What is the review?

The costs of this RSA for Beat diesel are:
Rs. 1000 for 1 year
Rs. 1800 for 2 years
Rs. 2700 for 3 years

Available only till age 5 year of the vehicle.

Should I go for it?

Although I don't have personal experience with RSA of Chevrolet, I would suggest it if you are frequently travelling out of town. This is just like insurance. Rs. 900 per year is not a big premium if you frequently travel on deserted highways or long trips. Given how complex the modern cars are in terms of dependency on electronics, it is good to have RSA for those situations where the issue might be as simple as a blown fuse but the result might be as bad as a car that wouldn't start.

Sparse service network would mean higher towing charges due to the higher distance to the nearest service station once you leave the comfort zone of the city. So it is a benefit that they are paying for it and not you. Also, from their offer, they would also reimburse they taxi fare. These two combined would be more than the annual premium you pay.

However, don't go into it expecting them to have a quick turn around time. It is very likely that you might have to wait for them a few hours, based on experiences shared about the RSA of anyone other than Maruti.
