Mahindra "Spark the Rise" Challenge - Rs. 6 crore Prize!

As we all know by this time that Mahinda & Mahindra is today officially launching the open competition worth winning 1 Million USD price. The competition comprises of 2 different challenges,

1. Driverless Car for India
2. DIY Solar Kit

Not going in more details here, all rules regulation, faq can be found on their official website: http://www.sparktherise.com

There may be naysayers about it, but I personally highly welcome such moves by an Indian company. Whatever their motive behind it, it surely sparks the young minds! Let's see how it goes.

BTW, any BHPians already all geared-up to participate in any of these?

Mod: Haven't found any relevant entry so the new thread. Also, as the competition is spanned across some months, a dedicated thread is deserved.

re: Mahindra "Spark the Rise" Challenge - Rs. 6 crore Prize!

The algorithm for Indian Driverless Car must account for

1. free minded yellow board drivers
2. carefree bikers
3. animals
4. drivers on the wrong lane
5. arbitrary bus stops
6. jaywalkers
...

A million dollars for this CEP system? Peanuts.

Interesting topic, I would like to add few more items to your list.

7. Sensors to look for open manholes/potholes
8. Water level in the road to be considered during rainy season.
9. Auto/Bikes changing lanes from left extreme to right extreme without any indication.
10. basically, the algorithm should handle a situation "Anything can come from anywhere"

I guess even the google car will get confused and go into fail safe mode and park itself by the side!

Its a good initiative from an Indian company.

But it doesn't impress me much because, the target set looks too futuristic & sounds impossible at this time.

A suggestion, I appreciate challenges like this to solve day to day problems.
Problems that you and I face daily.
