Police Cars in Mumbai

We had discussed about the future Taxis in mumbai...this time its Police cars.
The Police Force has been given more than 100 Toyota Qualis and some Mahindra Boleros too. Do you think they are appropriate vehicles?? or do u think..they are not!
Which other vehicles do u think will suit the needs of the Police?
Is it that every state in India should have the same model vehicle..similar to the Ford Crown Victoria that is used all over America..!!
Put your thoughts in this thread!

i think.. Delhi.. has... mainly Gypsy
and.. now some qualis are coming in.

Qualis is fine.... would serve them for a ... good amount of time.

If you are thinking about.. chases!... well.. they.. hardly chase!...
they can use.. those.. hero honds for chasing... (its more effective in traffic )

i think the gypsies were better than the qualises or the boleros. firstly they were petrols , so better pick up and they were marutis cheap to service and maintain.also since it had 2 bench seats facing each other was better to get in and out during an emergency.

the qualis is a good choice , but i would rather prefer the senior staff with the qualis while the police stations and cops on duty with the gypsies.

cheers

i think.. its.. not just... non power steering....

it used to be the 1000cc engine.... giving out 45bhp!!! (my 800 also does that)
Well new MPFI 80bhp ones are good.... but.. 80bhp .... can they handle it, responsibly enough?

Qualis are doing a decent job but the Gypsys rocked. Boleros are not too fast either

Maybe a petrol Scorpio would do the trick . Anways they dont sell much . The police could pick them up in lots

Now what if the police had Vtecs ??

A car like a Ford Crown Victoria would just be too large to punt around in a conjested city like Mumbai. The ideal choice would be a Fiat Petra 1.6. It's very tough, pretty fast and not too large.

You read my mind Aditya, i was thinking on terms of a Palio, you need a small hatch in a small city. Besides i hardly ever see a cop Qualis with more than 4 people in the car. For the occasional party run, they could always use a Qualis.

i think the qualis are doing better than the gypsy s bcoz they were in absolutely rotten conditions and at the max they can do 40 kmph when chasing !!! the palio 1.6 gtx could be a better option for them while chasing

I agree with Aditya, a Petra or even a Palio would be ideal for the cops, but, maintainence would be on the higher side!

True, yet, i doubt the government would bother abt maintainence of the police cars.

Maintenance hmmm... guys, there is this govt car guy who comes to our garage. This car belongs to the bangalore RTO. The car is in SUPERB condition... why?? coz the driver of the car, whenever he comes changes things that isnt even required. For example two weeks back, he came for a general check. Then donno where his brain struck, but he said the car is done 60k and i think we should overhaul it ... mind it the engine is totally fine. In the end, he just didnt overhaul the engine, but made the garage get a BRAND NEW bottom half!!, and the head re-lapped etc .
The bill came about 40k!!, and yes the driver does keep 8k!!....Guys remember the money these guys are spending is our money (taxes)....

Cheers
Dom
