Hi,

Just had a couple of queries about someone buying a new car from gujarat and getting it down to Pune to register. They have a house in Kalyani Nagar. Is that out of octroi limits?

What are the different charges that I should expect to pay? Taxes, Entry tax, octroi etc. ?

Thanks

In case of purchase from a different state and registeration in another state here's the procedure.
The State of purchase will give you a temporary registeration which is valid for about 21 days(or one month, not sure).
After that you need to go to your home state where you want to register and do the registeration. Temporary registeration costs in the range of 3-5K. Entry tax comes into play only if the state has deemed it so. If thats the case when you go to RTO for registeration, they will ask you to pay the tax.
The best way to find out the procedure is talk to an agent, esp in case of places where the RTO is corrupt and going on your own would mean wasting many days

As per my information, you will need to get NOC from Gujarat RTO then register the car again at Pune RTO. Pune doesn't have Octroi charges or something, you need to pay road-tax etc only. RTO charges would be 6-7% of invoice price. For example, if you have Zen and its invoice price was 3L while purchasing, you will be paying close to 21k at Pune RTO and 3K at Gujarat RTO for NOC. There is a funda of refunding the RTO charges from the previous (Gujarat in your case) RTO but not sure about the procedure.

I bought my Getz from Hyundai Motor Plaza in Bombay and got it registered to Pune.. I had to pay octroi and still the car price came lower than the on-road price in Pune due to big amount of discounts offered by the Hyundai dealer in Bombay. The dealer took the pain of getting the car registered in Pune.

GTO, Kalyani Nagar is within Pune RTO as well as Octroi limits. You will have to pay Octroi for sure. I dont know about paying entry tax etc for an out of state vehicle.

I wasn't aware with Octroi then. But in any case this Octroi must be very less as compared to Mumbai Octroi, MoralFibre?

@moralfibre

Can you please tell us how much you paid for Octroi and RTO registration at Pune.

GTO@ I believe a car with a TC (Temporary Regn Certificate) can be driven only by an authorised person from the car dealership or the car company. Since you will be getting the car from GJ to MH12 on a TC, you may encounter a lot of naatak from the cops enroute. Find out about the OTT, Regn. fees etc from Pune RTO or agents out there.

moralfibre@ are you sure about octroi in Pune? Its well outside Mumbai city limits. People avoid registering in MH-01/02/03 to save octroi. Have never heard of pune. I am not sure though, will find out.:)

Exactly! Even if you come down to Vashi, there is no Octroi at all! But since MoralFibre has paid the same, I am confused now.

Not for a new car. You can choose to get a temporary registeration. That way you would not have to pay full road tax in gujrat.

Oops! My mistake, GTO. I was considering it as used. Just noticed your query for new car. Yes, you don't need to register the car at Gujarat and temprorary registration will do. No NOC, nothing.

I'll check the invoice and get back to you.

Octroi in Mumbai is 5%. Octroi in Pune in 1%. You save a bunch by registering in Pune. I saved Approx. Rs.45,000 with my Octi.

I would not advise you to do so as it is illegal, but I do know of some agents / dealers who put fake plates on a car and drive it across state / octroi / RTO borders just to evade the cops.

Yes, it would be like this. 1% is negligible when comparing to 5% of Mumbai. But I was considering no octroi in Pune.

Anybody any idea about Vashi? Is it ZERO or is it a very small % as well?

GTO,
Its very simple to get the car registered...

Get a Temp. Reg done in Gujarat.

If you cross the Mumbai octroi post then u need to get a Escort from the mumbai post as a proof that u will not be taking the car into mumbai but just passing by..

Then when you come to the Pune border you need to show the invoice and pay the Octroi at the octroi post..

Octroi may be applicable as follows..
Indian Car below 10 Lakhs - 1% of invoice value
Indian Car above 10 lakhs - 3% of invoice value
Imported Car - 5% of invoice value.

Once you obtain the octroi receipt just get hold an RTO agent give him all the papers required for the Registration and with work will be done..

Papers required for Registration.
1) Invoice Copy
2) Address Proof
3) Octroi Receipt
4) Insurance Cover note
5) If car bought on Higher purchase then there is a form which needs to be submitted.
Just for information RTO tax in Pune is 7% for personal registration and 21% for company registration

Hope this helps
Cheerssssss

Very detailed and to-the-point info, Evo, Thanks. Especially the registration charges. If I am not wrong, this 7% and 21% must be applicable in entire Maharashtra or Mumbai is special here as well?
