Re: Mahindra SsangYong Korando to be launched this year

It will be a challenge fro M&M to position this SUV in their line up (in terms of price). As i have my doubts about any possibility of under 10 lacs, anything around 12 - 14 lacs would cannibalize XUV, anything above that and it will be same story as Skoda Yeti.

Now with higher localisation even if they are able to get sub 10 lac price, then new Bolero (sub 4m) would be coming soon in that territory. Scorpio has a loyal fan base so it would remain intact more or less. UV market in India is not so matured that a manufacturer would be able to successfully penetrate with two SUVs at similar / same price points.
It would be better for them to retain Ssang Yong brand on Korando in order to differentiate.

What are you talking about? The XUV500 sells more than any Rs. 15 lakh vehicle has in India. It's created history. In fact, the XUV500 frequently outsells all the D1 segment sedans combined, including the offering from the 'super cool' VW you refer to.

The Design is very good and has smooth uncluttered lines. If and only if they can get the pricing in the 7-9 Lakh bracket they have a clear winner on their hands.

Not a big fan of Quanto Engine and I hopfully it comes with the 2 Liter Diesel Engine.

Last but not the least, ASS would need to up their game.

I think this could be a much better XUV 3OO than the hatchback sized S101 ever can be!
One of the rare times where I actually like the Mahindra grille on a vehicle.

I'd disagree here. There has been very little acceptance for a brand like Ssangyong in India. Pronouncing the name is a challenge in itself for many, let alone recollecting and associating it with a product.

The Korando could do with a Mahindra badge. The name already ends in a 'O'

That would just add to the cost. Nothing substantial to be gained from it. If it was launched at an absurd price with the 2.0; I'm pretty sure we'd be the first ones to bash them for the ridiculous pricing.

Cheers!

Re: Mahindra SsangYong Korando to be launched this year

Dimension wise it seems similar to Duster.

Duster : 4315 x 1822 (with ORVM) x 1634 (w/o roof rail)
Korando : 4410 x 1830 (??) x 1675 (??)
Wheel Base : 2673 (Duster) x 2650 (Korando)
Turning Radius : 5.2 (Duster) vs 5.4 (Korando)

Need to see what Mahindra does on the engine front? Will they:

- Put in the current 2.2 M-Hawk (The 2L does not come in India currently)?
- Surely folks wont prefer the 1.5L 3 cylinder engine.
- Or would they import the engine? But that would kill the price.
