Car exports from India declined 1.66% in 2014-15, primarily due to Hyundai

Passenger car exports from India declined 1.66 per cent to 5,42,082 units in 2014-15 due to challenges in traditional overseas markets like Europe, Sri Lanka and Algeria.

The decline was also mainly due to the country's largest car exporter Hyundai slipping over 18 per cent in its overseas shipments during the last fiscal. Car exports stood at 5,51,218 units in 2013-14, according to data from the SIAM.

Domestic car sales in India rose by 4.99 per cent in 2014-15 after falling for two consecutive fiscals, as lower fuel prices and softening of interest rates led to reduction in the overall cost of ownership.

Hyundai recorded a 18.02 per cent drop in car exports to 1,91,221 units from 2,33,260 units in 2013-14. On the other hand, Maruti Suzuki exports during the last fiscal rose by 9.77 per cent to 1,09,593 cars compared to 99,832 units in 2013-14.

Toyota Motor's exports of passenger cars declined 35.42 per cent to 17,607 units, while Volkswagen posted nearly two-fold increase in shipments to 64,994 cars.

Hyundai's drop in exports could also be a result of higher focus on domestic market.

Maruti & Nissan (the other two exporters of some volume) both reported an increase in exports, as did VW.

So basically, Hyundai brought the overall numbers down . Nothing to do with challenges overseas. Hyundai's production now focuses on India only. With more products in the pipeline (including the ix25), they're sure going to need it.

Hyundai moved production of cars meant for Europe from Chennai to Turkey, Czech right?

Hopefully in 2015, Ford should be exporting quite a bit from Gujarat.

Soon, Nissan exports will reduce when the Micra is replaced. However, Nissa exports a lot of parts from India

The biggest gainer was Maruti in terms of export volumes and saw 20k units increment this year. It also emerged as the second biggest exporter for last FY. Also OEM's as Ford, VW, Honda & GM jumped into the export bandwagon to utilize their production capacity which otherwise is seeing dust due to weak local demand.

The complete brand-wise export figures is listed here - http://management-punditz.blogspot.i...rformance.html
