latest update on the all new scorpio...

The new aluminum engine - 2.2 litres producing 140 BHP is in final stages of field trials .. Production is expected to start in September 06

Scoprio with this engine expected to be on sale Jan 07 onwards

The Engine is supposed to the best in its class wrt power, torque, Fuel efficiency and refinement

Also one version with ABS / EBD / Airbags is on the cards..and more improvements on ergonomics and styling are on the way

will be quite a slugfest , if the new safari dicor 3 L and the endeavour with CRdi is also on road by then..

Good to see Competition keeping manufacturers on their toes !! :)

so i guess then i should wait till jan '07 for buying a new suv/muv.
lets hope they price it within 10lacs.

Mahindra 2.2L with 140 BHP huh? Same as the Tata's 2.2L..will be interesting to see what it'll do to the market...also, what New 3.0L DICOR??

Well if it gets almunium engine, the engine is going to get lighter. That should solve some of the drawbacks of the Scorpio. Seems the battle is on between the two home grown SUv's. Let's watch the show.

Good to see that they are finally offering ABS+Airbags. 140bhp and a lighther engine should do wonders to Scorpio. Looks like some serious competition to safari and Endy finally.

Hope they can make it more stable at highway speeds. Braking also needs to be drastically improved. That is far more important than increasing the power I feel.

Porsche fan - was referring to another thread here on 3L , V 6 engine for safari..supposed to produce 200 bhp..

gonecase 01 - IMO ,price < 10 lacs does not look possible..my guess this engine will be offered as a topend variant , with all the bells and whistles at around 12 lacs.. Even at 12 lacs , it will be more powerful than the pajero and xtrail , costing much more. The current 2.6 L , 115 BHP engine will continue to exist

im really surprised the way our home grown manufacturers are active to the markets needs.m&m,bajaj,tata.already the scorpio is very powerful to drive.by introducing the all aluminium 14obhp engine,its gonna be a rocket .the biggest threat would be for tata cos since the beginning they havent been able to get any of their engines right.let the war begin!!

Holy Cow, Indian manufacturers are going high on CRDI!! If the Indigo can pump 90BHP out, why not the Scorpio with 140BHP?

Butttttttttttttttttt can the Scorpio handle it? Since the start, the Scorpio has always had good engines (Original DI, and the current Crde). What about the handling and braking? 140bhp on the current setup is suicide. For the occupants and the opposite car.

GTO, I own a DI 05 Scorpio and yes the handling and braking are not the best.. but having said that I've learnt and adapted my driving to the dynamics of the truck and it is not all that bad! The weight of the current mill is huge and plays a big part in the handling. One thing that scares people about the braking is the feeling that the rear is liftin off..
The current truck with the new springs does offer a better ride and there is a distinct difference in the braking (since I drive the old one everyday) The new engine should only help in improving the over-all package. It also should come on-par as far as the safety features are concened with the ABS, EBD, airbags etc.
Also it leaves older owners with mixed feelings :):mad:

If they have that high plans for engine, they must be working on handling and braking too. The 2006 Scorpio is better than previous Scorpios in handling and braking. If they fail to improve it further, new Scorpio will be better for extremely frustrated people. Wow, new way of suiciding! cool. ;)

Brakes - certainly need improvement for 140 BHP. Discs on all 4 wheels ( with tweaking of calipers. boosters etc ) as opposed to discs + drum set up as present now may be a move in the right direction..

Handling - the new scorpio is a better handler than the older leaf springed version.. The one area of worry still is high speed cornering..guess it is not written in any SUVs genes to take corners in highspeed with confidence.. something the owners will have to live with..

One reason for its bad handling was its unequal weight distribution.

With the all new aluminium block, which is expected to be very light when compared to its predecessor, should solve the handling issue to a major extent.

OT: M&M has already employed it's CRDe's on some of it's other models like the mini-bus.

IMHO a lot depends on the drivers. SUVs are not meant to be driven as race cars/ cars and have inherent drawbacks. Each vehicle has its drawbacks but most of the complaints re the Scorpio come from people who have graduated from cars who feel that the handling would be similar. As Madhav has mentioned the driver needs to adjust the driving style to suit the vehicle and not vice versa. Rgds
