Wonderful news to those who love this astonishing European superstar of a petrol car!
IAB report quotes Tomas Ernberg, Managing Director of Volvo Auto India;
Quote:

The Volvo S60 T6 gives 300 hp from a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, and it is going to be a racecar for the roads. It will be introduced in July this year.
The S60 will sport similar exteriors to that of its diesel counterpart, but will come with 2.0-liter, direct-injected four-cylinder producing 302 hp and 400 Nm of torque! 0-100 kph in just 5.4 :D

Is this a tuned Ford ecoboost 2.0L engine they have plonked in there or have they developed a new engine in-house?

I think you can definitely find a lot of Ford in this engine, but it's not a 2.0L EcoBoost. Geely has made significant R&D investments to bring the engine to where it is today. Ford would've provided some engineering support & supplies, as is usually the case when a car manufacturer is sold (Ford continued engine supplies for a while to Jaguar-Land Rover too after Tata bought the company).

Oooohhh Mama!!!

Do we know anything about pricing?

Volvo has been quite responsible with their pricing, even after bringing the products in via CBU.

Was quite happy with the pricing of the underpowered, albeit fantastic XC 90

sub 40? perchance?

This is fantastic.

Volvo is surely building a good garage filled with amazing cars.
And they have been truly Aggressive with the Pricing, Style as well as Performance.
That is something we don't see much from any car maker now days, especially beyond 30L mark.

They are not the best right now. But bringing these beautiful well-rounded machines will surely make them a competitive player in 5-6 years. I think that is what they are aiming for.

That review in the OP link is based on the 3.0L 304HP engine. The newer one is 2.0L of similar HP and Torque.

The beast is coming back from Volvo, with a new engine and identical technical specifications of the old six pot motor. Not that the segment cares, this engine should be more economical than the 3l.

It is also interesting to note that Volvo is bringing in petrol motors. This will be the second car in the line up to feature a petrol engine after the recently launched V40 petrol

T6 launch could be sooner! Few cars have already landed on our shores. T6 is powered by a 1969cc in-line engine pumping 306HP and 400Nm of torque. Sweet!! :D

Whats even more exciting than the launch is that Volvo is bringing in the T6 in favourite 'Rebel Blue' colour of Polestar fame!! I assumed this colour was reserved for Polestar models. R-Design package maybe?
Can't wait to finally see a volvo in this shade on Indian roads! clap:

Imports:

Any idea on the approximate prices based on the import costs listed there?

Don't think I can deduce anything from the 9L import price. Deducing the actual price from zauba hasn't worked in may cases.

However if I were to guess the price of the car, it has to be the most expensive S60 and will possibly be around 43-45L ex showroom. Wouldn't surprise me if they go a bit more with it as well.

Good news! Volvo S60 T6 will finally be launched on July 3 in Chennai.

Major changes from previous gen:
Quote:

Where the pre-facelift S60 T6 was powered by a straight-six 3.0-liter engine, the new S60 T6 will source power from a four-cylinder, direct-injected 2.0-liter engine.
On the new S60 T6, this engine makes 306 hp and 400 Nm of torque, whereas the pre-facelift model saw figures of 304 hp and 440 Nm of torque.

The new S60 T6 will be paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission driving the front wheels of the sedan, whereas the previous model came with an AWD system.
However, the incoming model promises to be quicker to 100 km/h with the dash taking a mere 5.9 seconds. The top-speed though is rated at 230 km/h.

I was a great fan of this car (earlier T6) but this seems to have lost the AWD & is surprisingly a FWD (i had to double check before posting) :Frustrati WHY ?

This just killed all my excitement for the car. Even if they optimize the traction control and all for the FWD. It will just not match an AWD or a RWD.

Only a real world test can determine if the Fwd will be able to handle the 300 horses well, my expectations are low. Compared to this i'd still prefer the BMW 328i, though i am not sure about 328i's availability anymore.

^^Isn't this the Drive-E engine which has a supercharger and a turbocharger ? 300 HP from a 2L is something !

Remember reading that Volvo plan on making Hybrid variants of this engine which can replace V8's !!
