Mercedes-AMG S 63 sedan to be launched in India on August 11, 2015

Mercedes-Benz has announced that it will launch the Mercedes-AMG S 63 sedan in India on August 11, 2015.

The S 63 sedan is powered by the same 5,461 cc, twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine that is found in the S 63 Coupe that was launched last month. It produces 577 BHP and 900 Nm of torque and is mated to a 7-speed automatic gearbox. Mercedes claims that the car can hit 100 kph from a standstill in 4.4 seconds and reach an electronically limited top speed of 250 kph.

The S 63 sedan comes with restyled bumpers, 19-inch AMG 10-spoke alloy wheels, AMG badges and a quad-exhaust system which distinguish it from the regular S-Class sedan. The car is built using aluminium and carbon-fibre, which makes it about 100 kg lighter than its predecessor.

On the inside, it gets AMG door sills, an AMG instrument cluster, AMG sports seats, a 3-spoke AMG sports steering wheel and aluminium gearshift paddles among other features. Like the S 63 Coupe, the sedan is expected to get the Magic Body Control system.

Wow! That's Sexy!

But also unnecessary! And a bit silly!

Now we will see a man in his late 50-60's going to MB showroom getting the "top-end" S-Class (we know it's not this as this is AMG) model, sitting in the rear-seat while the chauffeur enjoying every bit of it.

MB sure know how to play it's cards right!
I must also commend them for launching so many models one after the other!
Mercedes Benzs these days really look so good!

Considering the hefty price difference, the typical corporate guy / businessman won't buy an AMG for the heck of getting a 'top end'.

The only ones who do are those who enjoy the brute power. If not him, the young son / daughter of the house definitely will .

0 to 100 in 4.4 seconds? Why would someone pay more than 65 lakhs(assuming this will be priced at 2cr+) extra for this compared to the S500CKD which does it in 4.5 second.

I agree to some extent. This car is just way to big to find the gaps in our cities to use all that power. In India you have to dodge the traffic to find that empty gap to floor your v8/v12 and get your adrenaline flowing. To do that with the S is mammoth of a task (pun intended)

The typical corporate guy is now buying the S500 CBU. This is what MB dealers are pushing to get customization and bypass the inflated waiting periods. It's a simple oppurtinity game, none of the dealers want to sell the S350 as it's the most in demand and cheapest of the lot, they often say bookings are on hold or waiting periods are over 6 months. They use this to entice the customer to get a S350 buyer to get the CKD S500 instead.
Now, when a person contacts them to buy a S500, they give a similar story and push him to get a CBU S500. Even though the CKD S500 is readily available, infact some dealers were stuck with 2014 cars. This customer is enticed by personalizing exterior colors which others is very limited on the CKD model, personalize the interior with calf support rear seats(that extension is actually awesome!), choice of 19 or 20 inch wheels and various other options of colors/tech. The waiting period is also shortened as dealers already have these top options pre configured and imported as CBU's. Their margins are obviously highest on this model as the MRP is nearly 45 lakhs more than the S350 cdi.

With the launch of the AMG, they will entice the customer looking for S500 CBU customized to upgrade his shopping to the S63 AMG instead.

Thus, the wheels on the bus go round and round, round and round

Coupe AMG is @ 2,67 so Sedan should be in same ballpark given similar prices in overseas markets .

I found Dealer's website better than MB - neat design and correct information on prices perhaps managed by MB but better interface
