Mercedes-Benz has announced that it will launch the Mercedes-AMG C 63 S sedan in India on September 3, 2015 at the AMG Performance Centre in Delhi.



The C 63 S is based on the C-Class sedan. To distinguish it from the regular car, it gets restyled bumpers, AMG alloy wheels, AMG badges and an AMG quad-exhaust system.

On the inside, it gets AMG illuminated door sills, AMG S instrumentation, AMG sports seats, AMG steering wheel and brushed aluminium pedals as a part of standard equipment. On the safety front, the car is equipped with ABS, brake assist, ESP, collision prevention assist, attention assist, nine airbags and more.

The C 63 S is powered by a 4.0-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine that produces close to 500 BHP and 700 Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the rear wheels through a 7-speed automatic gearbox. Mercedes claims that the car can hit 100 kph from a standstill in 3.9 seconds and reach an electronically limited top speed of 250 kph.

The C 63 S will be the fourth AMG to be launched this year, and the tenth AMG product in the Mercedes-Benz India portfolio.

Mercedes is seriously going all guns blazing !! Halo car, after halo car! It's great that we have direct access to these niche cars here now even though the pricings are now beyond ridiculous. I'm expecting this to be in the range of 1.25 to 1.50cr ex-showroom, MBIL is trying to somewhat justify the pricing by bringing in just the "S" variant.

What a comeback from Mercedes! From struggling in the last place in the luxury segment to being the top draw in just a few years. Since past year, Mercedes have been all over the market with each of their launch grabbing the headlines. Even BMW launched the M3 & M4 but hardly anyone noticed. Things are getting tougher by the minute for BMW & they really need to shed their smugness and figure out how they can claw back into the Indian car buyer's minds.

In other news: The C63S coupe version just got leaked, looks stunning with curves of the AMG GT at the rear and back end of the S coupe.

I'm personally more of a BMW fan having owned a few over the years, however when it comes to the performance cars those time around, BTW have been downsizing their engines considerably and when you look at it, their AMG counterparts have been outperforming them which includes the M3/C63.

If I were to but one now, it would be the C63 for the performance and that exhaust note. I'd pick the 4.0 litre V8 against the 3.0, though the BMW offers the better transmission of the two.

Performance aside, from a marketing perspective, not really sure what BMW can do at this point to turn the tide around. They just have to play catch up for now unless they can significantly impact with a price difference which I doubt they can.

Can't wait to see this in person. I tried very hard to get the W204 C63 coupe version, but MB India couldn't do it. That was a beautiful looking car, but this one has a nice booty. 😊

Hopefully they'll bring this here, looking at the launch spree they are on.
