The BR-V was showcased at an exhibition in Indonesia sporting the "Lunar Silver" shade. This is the 4th shade seen till now (others being Red, White & Urban Titanium) that the BR-V will be seen in.

Another report in Autocarpro indicates that the BR -V will get the 1.6L engine in India.

They reports are the same, 1.5 for petrol and 1.6L for diesel.

Interesting. Not sure why Honda would want to plonk the 1.6 L diesel in Amaze, City and Mobilio because IIRC the 1.5L diesel engine is in one tax bracket while the 1.6 will be in the higher tax slab. Using the 1.6 is sure to drive up prices and since Honda already charges a premium on its products this would be a deadly blow... Just my 2 cents :)

Not really... the rules for lower excise bracket: Length: 4m AND Petrol Engine: 1.2 L / Diesel Engine: 1.5 L. These rules are in conjunction and not standalone, e.g. a car has to be both less than 4m with a diesel engine of 1.5L to get lower excise bracket.

The 1.6 would be in a different tax bracket only for the Amaze. City and Mobilio are already in higher bracket as they measure more than 4m in length.

So BR-V is also going to be in the higher tax bracket irrespective of the engine specifications. IMHO what Honda have tried here is the combination of compact SUV and MPV. The front profile, with raised bonnet when compared to Mobilio is providing a SUV like stance indeed. The overall length suggests it would be spacious as well. Additional seating capacity is another plus. So it is indeed capable of giving tough competition provided Honda comes up with reasonable pricing.

However personally I would have preferred a proper 5 seater compact SUV here in sub 4 meter length with a tougher front and side profile.

Well... Not really! There are three categories.

1. Cars with less than 4m length and less than 1.5l diesel and 1.2L petrol engines. 8%

2. Cars with more than 4m length but with engines less than 1.5l diesel and 1.2L petrol engines. 20%

3. Cars with more than 4m length and larger engines. 24%

A switch from 1.5L diesel to 1.6 diesel means an increase of tax by 4%, plus increase in costs due to decreased economy of numbers. Seriously doubt Honda would make that move for what its worth.

Even the CR-V is not very tall ..

Not just short but narrow too. And the car is to be with a Gc above 200 mm as per the vehicle unveil presentation, so finding it surprising it still looks so short. Probably it is the camera angle.

GC is not directly related .. taller cars can have lesser GC. Or shorter vehicles like the Duster can have a greater GC than cars of similar height.

The front somehow looks good in this shade however the overall width and height makes it look like a Chinese toy rather then a Japanese SUV. No matter what they call it, at the end of the day it is Mobilio with cosmetic changes.

So after the episodes of a hatch being presented as a Cross with slap on plastics, we have a new "MPV-Cross" segment. Now I am getting confused and irritated with all these ugly contraptions.:Frustrati

Well... really! I stand corrected :)

I missed the 2nd category. So the prices of the City and Mobilio would increase by 4% whereas Amaze would go up by 12%.

Thank you for sharing that info CrAzY dRiVeR, two minor corrections though.

Also the ground clearance is one of the criteria in deciding the excise duty slabs. Below is the snapshot from SIAM website depicting the various categories of cars and their excise duty slabs:

Note: Maruti has very cleverly exploited the FAME policy (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles). As can be seen above the excise duty for Hybrid cars is 12.5%. So the Ciaz Hybrid (SHVS) and the soon to be launched Ertiga Hybrid (SHVS), which were under the 27% tax bracket, now enjoy only 12.5% excise duty, hence the reduction in Ex-showroom prices for Ciaz (SHVS) compared to its erstwhile model.
