Hyundai Grand i10 & Xcent now available with CNG kits

Hyundai has introduced CNG fitment with DEDST (Dual ECU Dynamic Sequential Technology) in the Indian market. The CNG kit comes as an optional fitment on the petrol variants of the Grand i10 and Xcent. Power continues to come from the same 1.2-litre Kappa 2 engine. Article says it can be fixed at the dealer level for existing cars also.

Hyundai is providing a certified CEV CNG kit which is a sequential unit tuned for petrol cars. The dual ECU technology system comes with separate injectors which help deliver optimal gas flow to the engine for lag free performance. The kit can be retrofitted on any variant of the Grand i10 or Xcent compact sedan at Hyundai’s authorised dealerships or service centres and does not void warranty provided on the vehicles.

The DEDST CNG kit comes with a dual system that automatically switches to CNG from petrol after driving a couple of kilometres and vice versa once the CNG gas is exhausted. The running cost on Hyundai models can be expected to come to around Rs. 2/- per km while an ARAI certified mileage is rated at 24 km/kg on the Grand i10. This is the fourth fuel option to be offered on the Grand i10 in addition to the petrol, diesel and LPG range.

Naah, with CNG prices at 40 - 44 bucks a kilo, it's no longer a hot item for economy seekers.

The difference to diesel has gotten too slim in recent years. Plus, there's the usual CNG headaches like lesser boot space, lesser power, waiting in que for a fill-up, apprehensions over safety, limited highway ability etc.

For private cars, CNG's chance never really came. And it's gone.

This is a dual ECU direct injection sequential kit, wherein there is separate ECU to handle CNG injection to the engine which provides good pickup. I did not have a test drive, but heard from a friend that the engine still feels peppy. Also Hyundai is giving 2 year warranty for the same.

Thanks Shravan

As you said there is a separate ECU for it, whether that will be integrated with the MID display or there will be separate attachment like other CNG units

The company is charging 68k for the unit, is it worth getting it by company or from outside

Sorry for asking too many questions
