Terrific pricing, if the news about Redi-GO pricing is true.

More than Alto, it will be the Kwid that has to worry more, IMO. For anyone looking for an alternative to Alto, Kwid is there. Now Redi-GO will "divide" the sales numbers (owned wholly by Kwid currently) against the "incumbent" Alto.

I saw the Redigo at Shiv Nissan Baner.

Whatever shortcomings were present in the Go hatchback have been attended to in the Redigo.
1) Panel gaps are consistant
2) Interior trims (though fewer than similar segment cars) are of good quality (but when compared to the latest Nano variants, Nano scores above the Redigo)
3) High set driving position gives a good view of the road.
4) Egress / Ingress is easy due to the "tall boy" design (Nano's is slightly better in comparison).
5) Paint quality was not very good
6) Door panel sheet metal had a wavy feel

Here are some images of the Redigo

In department of looks atleast the Redi-Go looks better than the alto and a tad better than the kwid too (personal opinion) but Maruti after sales is what will still help the alto rake in numbers

Interesting! 2.39L starting price? After June, let us see how much dent Redi Go can create to Kwid's as well as Alto's sales!
On the other hand, 2.39L is true, and that is also not a random text like 'AAAAA' :)

Redi-Go brochure leaked!

It will come in 5 variants - D, A, T, T(O) & S, with the top S variant being the only one with a driver-side airbag.

The D variant is pretty bare-bones, with no AC even!

The mid-level T variant gets a mobile docking station, unique to it's segment.

In addition, 5 body kits will also be on offer to spruce up your purchased Redi-Go - Easy (Sporty), Easy (Premium), Kool, Urban & Style.

Redi Go prices announced.

Offered in 5 variants.

D – INR 2.49 lakhs
A – INR 2.95 lakhs
T – INR 3.22 lakhs
T (O) – 3.33 lakhs
S – INR 3.49 lakhs

Ex-showroom Mumbai.

Adding the ex-Delhi prices:

Datsun redi-GO D – INR 2,38,900
Datsun redi-GO A – INR 2,82,649
Datsun redi-GO T – INR 3,09,149
Datsun redi-GO T(O) – INR 3,19,399
Datsun redi-GO S – INR 3,34,399

Disappointing that airbags aren't even an option in any other option apart from the top-end "S". But then again, pricing is quite close between models with 50k spanning "A" to "S".

OT: The models are the first 4 alphabets of the brand name... does this mean we will see 2 more variants, "U" and "N"!

I guess many features provided in the D variant are missing in the list. Let me list them for clarity:

- Driver-side steering wheel
- Metal A, B, C pedals
- Windscreen with clear glass
- Length adjustable front seats, with push-back option
- Internal RVM with adjustment
- Adult locks for all doors for security

What else are features here!

Though the outer appearance of the car is nice, and the packaging is pretty similar to what Maruti has done to the Alto, this one is stamped Datsun (poor brand equity / cheaper cousin of the already cheaper Kwid) everywhere - unlike the Kwid or the Alto.
Let us see how this car fars against Kwid / Alto, and its own not so costly Go & Go+ in sales.

The top end at 3.34 ex Delhi? Let us look at the parts that make a car - Steel, rubber, glass, plastic, labor, land, capital - cost of everything has gone up but the car prices (for the features) are going down. They have even managed to plonk an airbag and DRLs. Where is the squeeze? Where are they saving costs? Have we been buying overpriced / unsafe cars all along. Or there is paradigm shift happening in the manufacturing processes - for good or for bad, god knows.

The answer to your questions is You get what you see. You don't get what you don't see. :)

If a particular car is being sold for a decade or more for pretty much the same price, in spite of all the raw materials and labour costs going up, and the profit margins of the said company remain intact, is it not easy to conclude what is happening? And no, there has been no big shift in manufacturing processes to reduce costs to this extent either.

Here is how the Redi-Go stacks up against it's competition, price-wise:

The Datsun Redi-Go Hatchback-infographic.jpg

As can be seen, it's pitted directly against the Maruti-Suzuki Alto 800.

Hmmmm, so curtains all around and then 'mood' lighting, sure does give other ideas for marketing this kit lol:

How much would the cost go up if they added in another air bag? 15000 rupees? They should have atleast had an option of dual airbags.

Finally it boils down to looks as all competitors are equally equiped, more or less, there is no contest with alto 800, the redigo wins hands down. But with Kwid in the picture, it is not going to be easy for the redigo.

Is this how the new gen small cars are being built? Amazed to see the amount of flex in that front bumper.https://youtu.be/UqwTzbTxD10
