Why does Maruti cars cost the cheapest in Meerut when compared to other cities? Heck the price in Meerut is cheaper than even Gurugram and Manesar. Checked for Baleno, S Cross and the DZire and its the same. These are all post GST prices. Not sure if that was the case pre GST too.

I'm sure it's not to do with transportation costs!! Any idea guys?

Maharashtra has increased road tax by 2ppt. Matter of time before other states follow suit. To some extent this offsets the lower road tax since ex showroom prices have fallen but only partially.

Honda , Ford , TVS have cut prices to pass on GST benefits to the customers.

It seems as if the foreign based manufacturers are better versed with India's GST than the Swadesi ones.
It didn't take too long for the likes of Toyota, Suzuki, Honda, Ford etc to pass on the GST benefits to the consumers & reveal the prices, I am still trying to figure out what's holding back Tata & Mahindra :Frustrati

Hyundai, VW and fiat are also yet to officially announce post gst prices so why single out just Tata and Mahindra. More than the just the tax on the finished product GST would also mean that manufactures get tax credit on components they buy. This should further reduce the cost of the final product. A few days is fine to make all these calculations. It would also be a good time for some of the companies to adjust the prices of their offerings to market realities and pass it on as GST benefits without showing weekness.

Who knows, maybe Hyundai and Mahindra decided to wait a day for the price of the compass so that they could decide the prices of Creta and XUV accordingly. :D

Why is it that toyota has decresed price of fortuner in the range of 2L in delhi, whereas ford has decresed it in 1.5L range for delhi. Both were similarly priced before GST. Is ford being too greedy here? Can govt. anti profiteering law book them for pocketing the benefits of gst themselves and not transferring to customers?

I am not a CA or even from finance but coming up with GST prices is obviously not straightforward.

1 - We need to claim/deduct the GST paid for the inputs consumed
As of now, the inventory would not have any GST paid, hence there is nothing to claim. One month down the line, the inputs would be GST paid, the claim can be made and benefit HAS to be passed on. The challenge is - how often can you revise pricing

2 - The manufacturers with all (CBU)/lots of imported components might find it easier to decide on post GST pricing as there are no/less inputs which are GST paid

3 - The vendors themselves might be using GST paid components and might not be able to provide the post GST pricing to the car manufacturers

As such, it might take a while for the manufacturers to come up with the right numbers but obviously they would have to come up with some number to keep the sales going. We should not be surprised to see further corrections down the line.

MAH increases road tax by 2% due to loss of octroi. The loot begins. Hardly any difference will translate and if manufacturers raise price citing increase in production costs in a few months that'll be saying that GST or no GST we the consumers won't get any benefits

The new prices aren't out as yet and going by your price list, seems to be a big 1 lakh off the old price, which makes it much more value for money.

I agree, this 2% is to compensate for the Octroi loss :deadhorse

I am glad they have decided to cap the tax to 20 lakhs however this cap is yet too high. A person buying a car over 1.5cr will anyways pay that much tax @13-15% however if he does so in JH he will pay only pay 1/4th that price, saving him nearly 15 lakhs.
Only when one is registering a car a Phantom will it be a "level playing field".
Hence, they should cap this at 10 lakhs if they really want to making it a level playing field.

Also there is no mention of what the tax on CBU and company registration is. Usually these are almost double of regular individual RTO rates of CKD.

Toyota does the same in Mumbai. Toyota reduced 2.1L for Fortuner but Ford reduced 3L for Endeavour.

I took delivery of Jazz V MT yesterday here in Chennai which was invoiced pre-GST. I was asked to fill a refund form and sign along with copy of the invoice and other supporting documents. I was said that whatever the final difference will be refunded within 45 days of submitting the form. The salesperson suggested it could be around 8k but was unsure what the final amount would be.
