The recently launched 2016 Suzuki Vitara has been caught without any camouflage inside MSIL premises.

Already launched in Europe back in April 2015, Suzuki had patented the "Vitara" nameplate in India a while back.

Are these here for an Auto Expo unveil and a (possible) future launch by Maruti-Suzuki, either by late-2016 or early 2017?

It does seem to have a good road presence.
With the Maruti brand name and decent pricing it can be a good alternative to the skoda yeti and even the Mahindra XUV unless you really want the 7 seats.
Also if this product becomes successful,it may force Hyundai to bring in the new Tucson to our market.

Is the Vitara expected soon in India ? I thought they were going to bring in the mini SUV first and then the Vitara.
Looks really good to me and i think this time around it will find many takers if its priced closer to the Creta.

Does the side profile remind you of a smaller version of land Rover with the backward sloping roof?

These cars are here only for the AutoExpo. Note that they are both LHD models

Sources from Maruti ( Aftermarket) indicate that the Vitara will come with the DDis320 - but will launch only in 2017.

They could also bring the AT - Diesel as a variant in the NEW Vitara.

For Petrol they could bring the 1.4 boosterjet engine. Thus the Vitara will sit above the S Cross (in pricing)!

This is the most likely reason. But good news still as MSIL might be looking to gauge response at AutoExpo and sketch launch plans here.

With Maruti, we will catch the new offerings during prolonged tests before a launch. And if I am not mistaken, we haven't seen the big Vitara under camouflage on our roads yet.

I don't think Vitara is big enough to compete with Yeti and XUV, but it would be a contender for Eco sport and Creta. The bigger sibling 'Grand Vitara' could be a threat for XUV if it's priced aggressively.

Here is the clarification - the Vitara Brezza that Maruti will launch in early 2016 will be the CUV, rivaling the Ecosport .

The New Vitara featured here will in most probably be a segment above S Cross in India, considering the features and powertrain options with which it could be launched.

The rear looks very similar to the S-Cross. Wouldn't it be better if MSIL brings in the Grand Vitara to compete with the XUV5OO than this. I thought the S-Cross was the one to compete with the Ecosport, the 1.3 versions i.e.,

The blue piece has Allgrip badging.

MSIL -- get a 1.6L turbo petrol, Allgrip, AT box and full safety kit. Will consider adding to my garage in 3 yrs.
Will I replace my Grand Vitara? Nope. It will then become my hard core offroader(with suitable mods:)).

:OT is that a boat in the back ground? Wonder what it is doing inside the Maruti Garage

Sharp ! It does look like a boat. check the next pic, where you can a trailer too at that spot. Would deduce that these pics are Not taken in MSIL premises.

Bingo! This is what came to my mind too.

Cool looks. Maruti seems to be set to take it's own share of the mini-SUV market, once this is launched in India

In the 4th picture, look at the way the guy is dressed along with the visible little of his face. Also the paunch and the way the pant is worn below it somehow points towards it being taken in India :D
