Mercedes brings in GLS350d for homologation

Keeping in line with their aggressive launch strategy in India, Mercedes has wasted no time and imported the new GLS for homologation. GLS is essentially a facelift of the current GL-class and follows the new nomenclature. A single unit of GLS350d 4MATIC variant has been imported.

The 350d gets its power from a 3.0L V6 diesel engine that makes 255 BHP and 620 Nm of torque, delivered through the new 9G-TRONIC automatic gearbox.

re: Mercedes brings in GLS350d for homologation

I cant understand how these cars are imported at such a low price. I mean, the customs people are not stupid. Surely, they'll know if the company is under-invoicing to save duties. And if this is the actual ex-factory price of the vehicle, then

If it can be made for 18L in the US, it will definitely be made for much less here. But assuming the number 18L, you sell it for 35-40L and it will put all the Fortuners and Pajeros and Endys and Q5s and X3s out of business overnight.

Makes you wonder just how much money these Germans are minting in India despite the low overall volumes on offer.

re: Mercedes brings in GLS350d for homologation

Hopefully they will get the 250 CDI Matic rather than the 220 which is in the C class sedan currently.

Any idea as to how much time from homologation to launch it would typically take for MB?

Eagerly awaiting the launch especially if it gets priced below 50 L OTR, like its sedan sibling, becomes a good buy for some one looking for C like interiors and luxury but in a SAV version.

I guess you're talking about the GLC buddy, this here is a thread for the GLS which is the replacement for the current GL.

Not much of a change from the existing GL 350 except for the new 9 speed auto box.

Haven't driven the new GLE 350 (same engine and gearbox combo as GLS) yet, but have heard that its better and quicker than the existing 7 speed auto box.

Good on Mercedes' part to bring the latest version of the cars to India within months of their international launch.
