And yes, while discussing with dealer, make sure that you express your resolves as if you have completely made up your mind and almost ready to hand over cheque. This way, he would quicky come to the term. It is proven to work.

All the best!

I spoke to Anuroop Bombay, and they were offering about 45000 on Petra and 30000 on Palio 1.6
Does anyone else in Bombay sell the Petra?

But they are selling only Palio and Adventure, and not the Petra. Any other Fiat dealer in Bombay?

Wouldn't bet on it. The palio has a pretty contemporary design and beats anything in the market today - I mean hatchback

Agreed it is getting old,but is certainly not outdated. That sales will not pick up after the price slash is a fact, but for reasons other than the car itself.Look at the car in my avatar and let me know if it looks outdated to you.(Boasting )

I have managed to haggle a discount of 75,000/- for Palio 1.2 Elx in Hyderabad. That comes to around 3.95L on road. But I am in a dilemma whether to go in for a Palio 1.2 or 1.6 since I will be converting to Lpg as and when Fiat comes out with its Lpg kits and I am not too sure about the performance of Palio 1.2 with Lpg. Palio 1.6 will come to around 4.6 L on road.
Any suggestions guys.

@Dhanan,
you can get an LPG/CNG kit installed at the TATA-FIAT dealers, they are doing it here in Noida at least for around Rs 50K
btw, Palio 1.6 is Rs 4.3L on-road here in Delhi

I would suggest you to go to palio 1.6. Even if there is a performance drop after lpg, 1.6 should give you enough power to enjoy the car.

Windsurfer, Markiv,
Now I am in even more of a dilemma, since as per autocar New Plaio will be available around Jan 07, that too with 1.3 Multijet and 1.4 Petrol. I am therefore putting on hold my decision to go for 1.2ELX.

But as per Autocar the price is going to vary between 4.5-5.5 L. The new petrol model will be a Lakh rupees more expensive than the current discounted 1.2 ELX, and the Multijet will be more.

Here in Delhi the 1.2 ELX is available for 3.57 ON ROAD inclusive of finance discount. I am in the same dilemma as you are, but am thinking that buying the current Palio 1.2 ELX makes more economic sense. What say guys?

According to the Indian Express, there's an 80k discount on Palio:

When you buy a car on finance, typically, you get a loan for 85% of the car cost; the balance 15% has to be paid by you as down payment, which is what dealers are waiving off on Fiat Palio.

But it’s not as if zero down payment means you will have to necessarily pay a higher rate of interest on the loan in the Palio deal, it is still 8 per cent, which is the going market rate today.

The dealer is giving a fat discount, which he adjusts against the down payment. The ex-showroom price of the Palio in Delhi is Rs 4 lakh, on which the dealer is offering a discount of Rs 80,000.

So, if you were to finance it, you would be entitled to a loan of Rs 3.4 lakh. In other words, you would have to make a down payment of Rs 60,000 to the dealer. But the Rs 80,000 discount more than covers that down payment. The dealer, in fact, owes you Rs 20,000, which you can use to pay for the insurance, road tax and any other expenses you might incur at the dealer’s.
