It looks like the crossover population in India is set to go up a notch as a report suggests that Honda is planning to launch a crossover based on the Jazz hatchback. Internally codenamed '2FM', the crossover could be launched in January 2017 and Honda might be looking to commence production from December 2016, with a monthly sales target of around 5,000 units.

As per one of ET Auto's sources, the 2FM will be showcased at the Sao Paulo Motor Show in Brazil. This of course, draws our eyes to the Honda Fit Twist that had been spotted testing in Brazil. The Fit (Jazz) Twist is simply a Fit with additions like roof rails, body cladding, beefed up bumpers and faux skid plates to make the car look more like an SUV, making it akin to the Hyundai i20 Active, Toyota Etios Cross or Fiat Avventura.

The previous generation Fit / Jazz was offered with the Fit Twist treatment in the Brazilian market, but that body style never made its way to India. Launching a Jazz based crossover could help Honda bring in additional sales without having to make a large additional investment. Honda was banking on the Jazz to bring in good numbers and launched the car with higher localization levels and at a considerably more competitive price point than the last time. However, rivals like the Maruti Baleno and Hyundai Elite i20 continue to trump the Jazz in monthly sales numbers.

Honda has just launched the Amaze facelift and is expected to launch the BR-V in May this year. The refreshed City could be on its way in the festive season and the Accord may return this year as well.

Isnt the Honda Vezel/HR-V the Jazz based crossover or do they have another Jazz/Fit based cross over in the making.

The Honda Vezel is a subcompact crossover manufactured by Honda. The vehicle was first introduced to the Japanese market in late 2013, and made its North American debut at the New York Auto Show in April 2014. Sales of the vehicle in the United States began in the spring of 2015, branded under the revived name Honda HR-V. The HR-V nameplate has been carried over to other markets, including Australia, Canada and Singapore.

Smaller than HR-V and based on the fit/Jazz platform

Smaller than HRV is the BRV. Isn't it. Is Honda planning another one to slot in between the two? I thought the BRV was also based on the Jazz platform. I get that BRV is not a true SUV / crossover. It's a pseudo crossover. Lol.

BRV is based on Brio. My guess is this new car will be like i20 Active version of Jazz. And I think it suits the body style of Jazz.

Whatever it is, this is going to be the best looking 'hatch converted to look like a SUV' comparing to Cross Polo, Elite i20 Activ, Etios Cross etc.

Honda WR-V a "mini HR-V" designed in Brazil will also be sold in India!

To be launched in Brazil the vehicle is spied earlier this year in the vicinity of the Honda factory in Sorocaba (SP), the WR-V will be based on the platform of the Fit and positioned below the HR-V.

Looks like another I20 Active whatever companion. Terrible. They need to stop doing these cheap tricks and just get the HRV to India. If they go this route theres no difference between Honda, Maruti, Toyota or Hyundai. Just going after volumes, whatever they can sell. I dont understand when you can sell the HRV in Pakistan and Nepal why cant you sell it in India. How stupid is that. Honda just wasting time. Strategy seems confusing or maybe they dont have any. Civic, Accord and HRV should be brought to India without any time wastage at prices that are competitive to their respective rivals and this will immediately generate them enough sales and revenue that they wont have to look at undertaking any of these cheap parlour tricks and beefed up Jazzs' to launch in the market.

While seeing the first rendering pics, I thought it's the face lifted Jazz. Where is the SUV styling in these cars? Having said that, the latest set of pics are cool!

I don't mind a slightly souped up versions of these hatchbacks as sometimes these do look good with all the cladding (Etios Cross, anyone!). But I can't agree with the unreasonable premium charged for these cars in the pretext of selling an SUV!

Hyundai did a quick job on the i20 to release the i20 Active. I am not sure what Honda will manage to achieve through this and why is there a need for designing.

Wan't to see a proper cross-over? See S-Cross. Just bring in the Vezel. Cross overs don't have enough market here and Vezel will at least appeal to the people who are looking for those instead of these hyped up hatches.
