Maruti is gearing up to launch yet another Limited Edition of the Swift. The Swift has seen several Limited Edition variants, most of which included cosmetic upgrades and came with fancy names (Swift Glory, Swift Windsong, Swift RS, Swift SP, Swift Star to name a few). For the latest edition, Maruti is going the crowd sourcing route to decide the name. Either they have run out of names or they decided to try this route after seeing the hype Tata generated when they went online to decide on the Zica name replacement. :)

As indicated above, the chosen name is expected to reflect 3 attributes

Names can be suggested via Twitter or Facebook

At this time the exact additions to the Swift LE is not known. As in the past, changes are expected to be cosmetic. Maruti had displayed a souped up Swift at the Auto Expo 2016. There are rumors that the latest limited edition could be something similar. Images from the Auto Expo Thread below (Source Link)

After seeing all the Limited Editions by Maruti only thing that is apt for the name is "Ricer S**t":Frustrati

Why can't Maruti launch a limited edition Swift with the 90BHP MJD or the 1.4 Petrol with a bit of suspension tuning to suit the increased power.

Oldie McOldface?

That seems about right :D

That being said, Maruti has been doing a lot of new things of late.
Hybrids, new launches in the form of Brezza etc, all look positive. So kudos to them for trying to keep stuff fresh and new.

However, the swift needs a revamp. IMO, it has started to feel & look old.

Seriously?! Cant believe Maruti wanting public to name the so called 'Limited Edition'! This should be called : 'n-RS' (NOTHING REALLY SPECIAL) edition.

+1. Time they do a real special edition. They have license to the 1.3L 90 bhp version & it comes under the lesser tax bracket; roll out just 500 of those and create a legend.

They should name it the swift chromolino and make it standard with front mesh chrome grille (jaala), chrome handles, mirror caps and chrome alloys.

If it is another cosmetic upgrade then they should call it Limited IQ. It will define their product strategy department.

Ohh, How I hate this car.

Swift is such a superstar that it is killing all other equally good (and sometimes even better) offerings in the market (like Figo). And I find no reason not to buy this. Even if MS just add one more sticker on the hatch and says "All - new", it will sell even more.

This is just not fair.

Limited Editions are good in a way that they can keep the car in people's mind. What else you would advertise a Swift with, if you do not have any facelift plans?
Instead of a sticker job, can they bring it a fresh colour & a nice interior scheme? We can agree that they cannot bring in any major changes, but atleast a few to keep people engaged? Sports editions are so boring, because they are not really sporty!

Some suggestions for a refreshed Swift:
a) Fresh colours - consider the colours from VW Beetle or Mini or even Porsche to name them sporty
b) Bring in interesting interior colours - How about a brown theme, or a dark red interiors?
c) Some features lifted off Baleno, such as the touchscreen AVN etc?

So many "Limited Edition" Maruti variants have just been farces with mostly simple cosmetic updates like graphics, dual-tone paint jobs, and body kits - they're just doing more harm than good but they don't seem to understand.

How I wish they bring in some meaningful updates in Limited Editions, maybe an engine in a better state of tune with more power, driver seat height adjustment, better interiors, better ICE, even ABS and dual-airbags on offer, I can only wish and dream!

After Swift Glory, they can probably call this the Swift SOS (Save Our Souls/Same Old Stuff) :D

Maybe iSwift - advertise with a entertainment system with Apple CarPlay! Bam! iSwift! :)

Or even more Swift-eR. :)

Maybe a Swift Limited Edition with a stiffer, stronger body shell that meets Global NCAP 5 star rating standards, with a good infotainment system, reverse camera, Projector headlamps, good alloy wheels, good interior plastics. That would make sense, and would surely lap up the competition, not this stickering job.

It should be named as Swift YO! indicating Yet Other Limited Edition.
And like Swift RS junta would be excited.

I nominate "Tip-top Chaandi Chammach"

Or "Boodhi-ghodi Laal Lagaam " just for that color scheme.
Instead of limited editions bull, why cant they just sell these various sticker kits as accessories, so that they are literally not chepo-ed on people.

But this is MS. They know it will sell. Not much, which is why the "limited". Cant fault them for juicing the market.

The whole funda of introducing these so called 'Limited Editions' from time to time is nothing but just to stay in the news. The magazines, auto websites and news websites cover it. And lo behold, Maruti gets themselves some free publicity. Nice Marketing gimmick!

But instead of calling them Limited editions and making a mockery of themselves, Maruti should call them Special Edition instead. That suits better IMO.

And about the contest part. They had to come with it because they must have run out of names due to launching so many limited editions for each car. Plus Tata did it recently. So they had to. :D
