LOL!
What's next? Lancer SFXi at 25 lacs?
This car was a great car for 40L or so ten years back but now Mitsubishi is mocking their own former self.

It seems Mitsubhishi decided well we have stock lying around and the SUV market is booming lets just bring this back, price it absurdly and call it new.
I see no reason why anyone who wants a genuine off roader with some creature comforts and decent onroad manners would pick this over the 3.2 lt Ford Endy at the lower end and the range rover/ prado at the higher.

I am sorry but are Mitsubishi playing the game of 'Spot The Changes' in India with this so called *now-in-India* Montero?

I truly l-o-v-e the Montero, with all its off-road hardware and monocoque chassis, its simply one of the best SUVs ever to be launched here and is really lovely to drive. One of my all time favorites (along with 100 Series LC). This past April, I was inches close to buy a pre-owned one. However, whats the point! Like others said, the game has moved on. With that price point, it is never going to fly from the shelves. However, with its ability to depreciate so quickly, it may just make up for a pre-owned buy down the line if I start to look on it all over again. I wish more people buy it this time so that enthusiasts like me can lay their hands on this at mouth-watering prices later! lol:

Otherwise also the Indian market was never on radar of Mitsubishi. HM was not able to made a cut either.

The products from the company were picked up on their merit and not on the basis of some market strategy.

Even now, its just an announcement and I would not be amazed if there are buyers for the product even now. specifically for Montero, there is a cult following and people do have money to buy their dream machines; India is no longer a country of liquidity crunch.

All the best Mitsubishi !

Is this a Montero?

It looks similar to the now obsolete Pajero in Middle-East which is retailing around 18-20 lacs INR in UAE for the 3.5 litre engine.

You can compare the models on the following sites:

1. Mitsubishi India and
2. Mitsubishi UAE

Am I missing something here?

Nopes, you are not missing anything
The Indian Montero is the previous gen Pajero of the Middle East:deadhorse

64 Lakhs. For a Montero? Thats more expensive than a Range Rover Discovery Sport.

I guess the launch is in July. I got a call from Mitsubishi and from SVR Motors, about the launch and invitation for the same.

Gears,
red-One.

Whats with Mitsubishi !

I have read somewhere that Mitsubishi (Japan) is trying to discontinue the Pajero brands.

Meanwhile, I have also read (again on Tbhp) about the company being on sale, and Mahindra among the
probable candidates for buying them out.

Added to this, we all already know about the issues between HM and Mitsubishi. Arent they keen on ironing out issues. They had a lot of small/economy cars that would have sold well in the Indian market. The brand is still loved by many, in India everyone falls for Toyota and Suzuki, Mitsubishi would have been the third in the list.

This has happened, Nissan has purchased a 34% stake in Mitsubishi Motors. I hope this is for the better. If Nissan can club Mitsubishi with its global Nissan-Renault group, the brand will gain a lot.

Nissan + Mitsubishi = Extreme Reliability.

Sporty sedans & tough SUV's with reliability is what they should target and no one would make SUV's better. Imagine the best of Patrol and Pajero.

The new Montero retains the good old Pajero's macho front looks, whereas the new Pajero has lost its earlier macho front look and image in its latest avatar. It sells fewer than 100 units every month in our country.

An SUV of this niche needs to have an imposing front grille and well designed headlights commensurate with a good, macho image.

Styling is a matter of personal choice. Also, while I like the sleek yet macho looks of the front and the sides, it is the rear that I detest, looks like a Tavera to me.

The Montero, on the other hand is a great looker, but at this price....:deadhorse

If they continue this way, the days of mitsubishi brand in India are numbered.

While passing by I was sad to see that one of only two mitsubishi dealer in Delhi have shut down. The Moti Nagar branch of Asian motors shut it's shop a month ago. I also believe that the one in Okhla isn't around any more.

It was particularly sad to see the desolate place that was in sharp contrast to their heyday when we bought our Lancer from them in year 2001.
