ZF to set up its first-ever technology centre in India

German automotive parts manufacturer - ZF Friedrichshafen AG is setting up a technology centre in Hyderabad to cater to the company's software and mechanical engineering and R&D needs. This will be ZF's first such centre in India.

The Hyderabad-based technology centre will work with ZF's global development team for the research and development of global products. Moreover, the new centre will help the ZF group in its local product development plans.

The ZF technology centre in Hyderabad is expected to start operations by January 1, 2017, and is likely to employ 2,500 engineers by the end of 2020. This isn't ZF's first investment in the country. The German manufacturer already operates a production facility in Pune, and a Joint Venture plant in Oragadam, in Kanchipuram district. The ZF Hero Chassis Systems Pvt. Ltd. is a 50-50 JV between the ZF Group and Hero Motors.

The ZF Group currently has more than 100 development locations globally, 17 of which are the primary development centres. More than 13,800 engineers are working with the company's R&D arm.

Wish some Indian manufacturer would form a technical alliance with them in India.

Tata is an excellent candidate, as their planned move up the price segments is starting with the Hexa, and they have two SUVs in the pipeline.
