Hey BHPians,

I just saw this write up in the letters section of 'CAR' October 2006 issue...

this guy gets a brand new fiesta 1.6zxi petrol from the local ford dealer...and at the time of delivery guess what the vehicle has done 850 kms on the odo!! the explanation which the dealership gave was that ford india personnel ramdomly select vehicles from all dealerships for extensive 'road testing' on an ongoing basis, and the guys vehicle happened to be one of those!! when he got the car, it had all sorts of engine vibrations, stains on the interiors etc...

at least the dealer took it back for re-inspection...

what is wrong with these companies that think they came pass on anything to its customers!!!

Comments??

WOW!!! This is phenomenal....if it was the U.S.
The dealership would have been sued for a million dollars +!!!
(Dealership's bad reputation + mental agony + Ford's credibility at stake. )

It is only in India that these people get away with such idiocy!!!!

Rubbish. I think he has been sold a test-drive car and they are only trying to hide it.

Its not really newsworthy. Many people get such cars, the only difference is that the odo is disconnected. The only difference here is that some somebody at the workshop forgot to disconnect the odo.

This is so insane. Manufacturers and dealers should be made liable.
Customer Forum is the very right medium for a quick resolution and proper addressal.
Today's TOI for instance highlights a case of 7.6L compensation to a customer because her 2005 Tata Safari failed pollution tests.

I heard lot of such news of brand new cars. very unfortunate, When I baught swift I also faced similar problems (my car's ODO read less than 30KM) dealership BIMAL and my complaint they attended when I fired BIMAL and MUL and made my friends buy cars other than MUL and swift. every time new car is purchased I used to send MUL and BIMAL the news, utlimately in 6 months they addressed all my complaint, but I have lost interest of buying new cars in future.

Used car is more worthy than new one if we inspect used car by following all steps.

Regards,

Ravi.

hi Guys,

it will be of great help if someone experienced writes the basic steps to check a new car before taking the delivery so that people wont get fooled. Otherwise, this menace will go on. Atleast it will save the BHPians and their loved ones!

It is really a pity that this has happened to a prospective buyer.Guys, i stay close to the place where Ford Plant is situated near chennai and i tell you the way the cars are loaded/unloaded is very very bad. They are literally treated very bad,It is horrifying to see cars of value 8-10 l are treated very badly and this can be very well seen from this.
