Rumour: Mahindra Verito Vibe production stopped

Rumour: Mahindra Verito Vibe production stopped

Mahindra is reported to have stopped production of the Verito Vibe due to poor demand. The car was launched in 2013 as a compact iteration of the Verito sedan.

Mahindra claims that it is not planning to discontinue the Verito Vibe. The company is in the process of clearing its existing stocks. Mahindra hasn't produced a single unit of the Verito Vibe during this fiscal year.

In a segment that has contenders from every major automaker, the Verito Vibe came in with a whole set of limitations. With an old-school design, few features, and a strange boot opening mechanism, the Vibe hasn't been able to attract much attention. The fact that the automaker sold just 619 units of the Vibe during the last fiscal year, and managed just 32 unit sales in the April-August 2016 period is a testament of the dropping demand for the car.

The 619 unit sales mentioned above in FY 2015-16 reflected a fall of 55% as compared to the 1,361 units shipped during the earlier year. Its debut year (FY 2013-14) was the best sales year for the Vibe, with 5,213 units sold.

The Verito Vibe is priced between Rs. 6.39 lakh and Rs. 7.32 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

Considering the sales figures, they should just package the remaining units into their recent deal with Ola and be done with it. The cars will see some use at least this way.

Agree that its styling and boot-opening mechanism was a bit weird. But the front seat comfort and ride quality that the Vibe offers is unmatched. Not to forget the frugal 1.5 litre engine.

Definitely the embarassing (for owners) boot opening mechanism put off customers - it should have always been a hatchback. Otherwise, Verito Vibe is/was quite a good looking car.

Th car was good looking and would have been better had they designed it as an hatchback. I love the alloy design and the unique champagne color.

The gap between the taillights and the rear windshield was

Can't blame Mahindra on this one. Indian car market has always given a step motherly treatment to any and every product that is different or out of the box.
IMO The car was completely different than anything in the market and hence good looking. The boot opening sure was odd but can't deny that it offered oodles of space and comfort in the front seats. Also a decent drive very much of capable cruiser. Not too forget the robust built.
A complete no nonsense mile muncher IMO!

Good riddance to bad rubbish. Did Mahindra really expect to sell this for 7 - 8 lakhs (on road Mumbai):

In a market where you can buy this:

I'm happy to see such a jugaad hack job fail. Mahindra should focus on building a handful of great products, instead of launching innumerable unfinished ones. Take the example of the TUV300 - nice SUV, but it clearly needed one more year of testing & niggle sorting. Instead of wasting time with Verito Vibes, they should have used those resources on making the TUV300 perfect out-of-the-box.

Oh please no! The lesser we see this contraption on the road, the better for our eyes.

Hardly a USP. Nearly every hatchback today is a no-nonsense mile muncher.

Not many options for the ones already out of the factory. Or what ever few left in there.

How could anyone design such awful looking car at the first place and then believe that it will sell? Finally, I think the sense prevailed by stopping its production.

I have seen only three of them till date, but those three were more than enough to tolerate.

If you think Vibe was such an eyesore, what will you say about Xylo and Quanto? Glad that one among them is gone, waiting for more updates from M&M, saying that Quanto, Xylo and NuvosportO are out of production. Same is the case with Sunny, Scala and Ritz.

Agree, but a rear-lifted Ritz would have done wonders to its numbers.

+1, though I doubt Ritz is going anywhere as its selling more than all Fiats or all Nissans put together. On the other hand, eye-candies like Punto and Linea fail to make any impact on sales number.

B2 segment brings in the highest volumes (60,000 per month average) and possibly revenues too. But when you look at the sales numbers closely, the following cars put together sell 45,000 per month -

Grand i10
Swift
Elite i20
Baleno

Now that's 75% marketshare for Hyundai and Suzuki. Now add fairly decent monthly sales of KUV 100 (thanks to SUV looks) and Jazz (thanks to practicality & brand) - 7,000 per month put together - you have the remaining 7 or 8 manufacturers fighting for scraps!

Verito Vibe
Bolt
Polo
Figo
Etios Liva
Sail U-VA
Micra
Brio
Punto

It's a real jungle out there - Lions taking the (well) Lion's share. Something left over for hyenas/vultures and small scraps of food for assorted birds.
