Re: Volkswagen introduces 4 limited edition cars in India

Did see the advert of the 2 anniversary limited editions - Polo & Ameo last week in a leading daily.

But weren't the ALLSTAR and GT Sport already available since quite a while now? I don't think these are "new" as such.

Re: VW introduces 4 limited edition cars in India

Volkswagen Das Sonderausgabe Auto. Ja!

VW make great cars but haven't indulged in a facelift, model refresh or even a minor re-styling ever since their entry into India. What they have done instead are mind-boggling amounts of limited editions starting with the Breeze, to now All Star, Anniversary, etc etc.

Can't say that its a complaint, today a VW Polo is the most fully-loaded hatchback in existence as is the Vento Highline Plus in the entry sedan segment and who knows what other addition is in the pipeline next week. Bring the new Polo and Polo based sedan within 2019, VW, I'm sure the sales will take-off after that.

Yes, sonderausgabe = special edition.

Always happy to see equipment levels and specifications improving, but this limited-edition stuff, not so much.

Honestly, who sees "Limited edition" and runs to the dealer? Anyone? I'm open to be proved wrong.

That's just the sort of thing limited editions are about. To my eye, these additions, especially to the external paintwork, don't give any improvement, but look like stickons.

Give me plain paint. Looks better, and I have a hunch that it ages and therefore resells better.

Re: Volkswagen introduces 4 limited edition cars in India

VW's base engine offering, the 1.2 Petrol is exactly the same, since over 8 years now.
Not even a minor update.
In Indian Automotive years, that would be two decades.

Perfect Engines (like the 1.2 K series) don't need to be updated often. However, MSIL is still tweaking them every now and then, to make them better and better. That is one of reasons why they succeed.

What is VW doing?

Re: Volkswagen introduces 4 limited edition cars in India

VW India was basically given one volume car by its German headquarters to sell here. Thus, they stretched it & added a boot (Vento), added a small boot (Ameo) and the decade-old original is still on sale (Polo). Then, they also broke all previous records by giving it an insane number of engine + gearbox combinations over the years - link.

We can laugh all we want at these lame 'limited editions', but they do help in moving the metal.

The frequent updates, drivetrain combinations & brand cachet mean VW is able to sell 3,000 - 4,000 copies of what is essentially the same car month after month. That's quite an achievement when you consider their age.

VW desperately needs the next-gen Polo.

They even changed the front end and the badge on the Vento and sold it as a Skoda too.

The combined numbers are not bad considering the age of the platform, and the cars remain relevant today as well thanks to the insane number of updates it has received over the years.

I think INDIA/INDIANS need the next-gen Polo more GTO.

There is another thread from Volkman10 posted today about VW "Probably" doing away with TDI engines altogether by 2020:

http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/indian...ml#post4267547

So this may just be all the more reason for VW to bring in their world products as they may just have to do with the TSI and Hybrid engines.

Yes and VW fans can rejoice . India will be getting cars from the MQB platform( though modified and known the 'ECO' platform).

So from 2019 onward expect the crossovers ( T Cross, and the rest of the T's ..) to make its presence felt here.
On the downside the diesels are the biggest question as of now.

Here is the confirmation from VW's Global CEO!

Would you look at a new vehicle architecture for the Indian market?

It should be based on a cost-wise reduced platform suitable for the Indian cost, but be a part of the existing architecture.
