Re: Spotted Hyundai Verna with 'Accent' badging - What gives?

Easiest way to figure out if it is meant for India - Just check if it has a dozen airbags or has only one. The former is for abroad and latter is for India. Okie, I am being sarcastic here

I do think this is export variant Verna that is called as Accent in Europe. I was in Bucharest sometime ago and saw tons of first gen Vernas with the Accent name plate there.

But in spite of that name, which I did think initially was too feminine for a car in india( no offence to the ladies) but it did do well and customers had no problem with the name! But they tried to take it too far when they actually came up with Lauretta for their next car, which was then later changed to the now
Rapid.

At the risk of going off topic: Hope Hyundai never uses its 'kona' nomenclature in India. The word is mallu slang for rubbish .

Agreed, but in almost all languages, we are accustomed to reading from left to right. Hence, we'll mostly find the brand name on the left and model name on the right.

'Hyundai Accent', not 'Accent Hyundai' is pretty much the rule.

Re: Spotted Hyundai Verna with 'Accent' badging - What gives?

This confusion of Accent & Verna seem to have raised only because Hyundai was selling both of them in 2005-06.

Hyundai had launched the Newer version while the old one was still out there due to its popularity. Hence Hyundai decided to name it Verna. Here we saw new name that is a popular nameplate today.

Old Accent

Old Verna (Known as Accent Globally)

This is similar to what Skoda did with Laura when the old Octavia was still on sale.

We continue with Verna while the same car worldwide is known as Accent (Original Verna) except Russia where it's known as Solaris.
