How soon?

[*]Engine option is likely to be same, but expect an Automatic (9 Speed ZF) along with 6 Speed Manual at launch.
Does it mean that the automatic version would only be in the Trailhawk version? :Shockked:

Source?

Jeep Compass Trailhawk to arrive sometime this year.

Thank you for the pics !!

A quick one

Are you sure this is for Indian Market?
The Trailhawk was to be manufactured for the export market only !
The Trailhawk was to come in a 9 speed ZF and it would start in 2nd gear only

The first gear would be engaged only when 4LO is selected and it would give a ratio of 20 : 1

Hence very confused about the non auto version - as in there will be no manual variant for this.

Jeep Compass Trailhawk launching this year in India. Jeep India is working out on specs.

So if they are going to launch it sometime this year, what is all the fuss about now?

Looks like FCA is trying to make some noise and get some attention during the Auto expo as they are not part of it?

They are putting in a Torque Converter in terms of the 9 Speed ZF Gearbox and not a Dual Clutch as was offered on the Petrol Auto which is a bummer at the price point. But I guess maybe the TC Unit has better reliability?

Some ZF Torque converter boxes (such as the 8 speed one used in BMW) are just as good if not better than dual clutch boxes. They are not as fast to upshot but are usually faster than DCT on downshifts, which is what matters for highway overtaking mounevers.

Volvo/Jaguar/BMW all use ZF Torque Converter Transmissions. Dual Clutch maybe slightly faster to shift but only my micro seconds and won't make a big difference in real world conditions. In terms of reliability, nothing can beat the Torque Converter automatic transmission.

The 9 speed ZF in the compass and other cars is known to be a very problematic and unreliable gear box.

This is just 1 link. Just search for 9 speed ZF reliability and you might get the feeling that the 7 speed DSG in the Skoda was better.

Yep ZF boxes have been known to be quite unreliable. The 8 speed ZF in my X3 was replaced around 90000km Mark within warranty. Earlier 6 Speed ZF used in previous gen X3 and X5 too were not very reliable.

ZF boxes are very very fast but not too reliable.

Mod Note : Jeep to launch Compass Trailhawk in India in 2018 - Posts moved to a new thread.

This is disappointing. After the not-so-exciting test drive I did of the petrol AT, I had been pinning hopes on the diesel automatic.

Two disappointments:
1) Looks like the AT would only be available in the trailhawk version, which would easily cross 30L.
2) Despite being a torque converter, if it is an unreliable box, I don't see the point in launching it here. Indians are not kind towards unreliable cars.

I guess I'll take another look at the petrol AT then.

Hang on do not be in a hurry.

What I last heard was they have sorted out the issue sometime late 2016 early 2017. No new threads or articles on this gearbox post oct-Nov 16.

The diesel auto is atleast 6 months away from an India launch, we should have reports from the Australian Compass by then. If it turns out to be problematic in Australia, then we go shopping elsewhere.
