The sales have reduced surprisingly for CSUV's when more and more people are willing to get the feel of the segment. I expected Nexon to break the 5K sales figure this month and maintain that figure for months to come knowing how good the product has been but not sure why the numbers have decreased. Even EcoSport's numbers have reduced but they are still impressive numbers if not compared to Brezza. I think people are waiting for AMT of Nexon which will boost the sales of Nexon so people want to play the waiting game.

One thing to note here is that people have become more aware now and are willing to invest in good products rather than brands. This shift from quantity to quality is getting more prominent with each passing year now as the likes of Ford and TATA are coming more into fray thanks to some quality products. Maruti is in a different league but surely people are willing to experiment now. The Creta,i20 as well as Tiago are prime examples though Hyundai should not be compared to TATA for the hassle free ownership it offers compared to Tata though Tata is changing immensely. I feel the biggest mover in car sales has surely been TATA in terms of sales volume and looking at their current products they will go further up. Watch out M&M.

It is impressive to note Toyota with 4th place in terms of revenue and have a market share revenue: volume ratio more than 2. If only their monocoque body plant gets more modest volume, there is no better company in terms of profitability in India

Seeing the month after month trends, I am now seriously thinking if having booked Vento is a right decision or not. Getting this feeling that looking at the sales numbers, there is no room for Europeans or Americans in our soil not so late from now. That said, the reliability is amazing with Koreans and Japs.

The dismal VAG figures have been going on for sometime now. But, I see more VAGs here than in other parts of the country. This is especially true in the Coimbatore region.

Exactly. I've seen 3 Ventos, unregistered in a single day, last Monday to be precise, within 5 KM radius in Coimbatore. Something to do with the regional preference. Also, from Chennai VAG dealers I here the dealer at Coimbatore is doing a stellar job in service. They are simply the best. This, coming from a competitor is something. The Chennai dealer even said to get the car serviced at Coimbatore itself!

Goes to prove out the point that After Sales and Service play a crucial role in the success of the product.

Automobile industry is set to register a strong performance for fiscal year 2018.

Within the PV segment, utility vehicles continue to carry the baton and sold 80,254 units (+21.82%) in the month; over the 11-month period between April-February 2018

More than service and other ownership experiences, the region in and around Coimbatore is known to have unassuming automobile enthusiasts and plus this market understands a good Diesel engine more than most areas in India. All good Diesel engines right from the Peugeot TUD5 in the 309GLD, the ford escort and lancer diesels and now the VW diesels have a good fan following! Have been fortunate to grow up in this region and witness the love for torquey diesels all around!

Nexon, Brezza, TUV, EcoSport (7-10 lakh) all are placed in the same C2 segment as Safari, Scorpio (10+ lakh) etc.
My naivety dare not to question the wisdom of much more experienced persons, but it just does not seem to be ok to my eyes.
Or, is this overlapping happening due to no clear demarcation between the segments and innovation of the manufactures where they slot their products in between the smallest of segment gaps, even straddling 2-3 segments.

The monthly sales figures for Nexon, Ecosport and Brezza is as given below, from the time Nexon was launched in Sep 2017.

As you can see Brezza was selling in the 14K levels before Ecosport facelift launched and settled around 11K levels after the launch. However Nexon seems unaffected and on a steady rise barring this month.

Don't know which city you're in but from what I've observed, commercially registered crystas can be found way more than private owned ones.
Infact i would say more than 50% registrations in Bangalore are for commercial purposes!

Interesting that I have not seen much of Crysta as private taxi, here in Chennai, except for few Hotel taxis.

Toyota was always carried by the heavyweights Fortuner and Innova and have very fat margins because of which they are in 4th place in terms of revenue. Once the Yaris is launched and if successful, then they may even get to 3rd place in terms of revenue however they may not be able to maintain the Revenue:Volume ratio as Yaris will be in the price segments lesser than Innova/Fortuner.

Let's not forget that Brezza (and several other MSIL cars) have a waiting period & MSIL's manufacturing utilization is at 100%. So dispatch numbers of Brezza are less likely to be affected by rivals. It is more likely that bosses at MSIL have instructed to cut down production of Brezza to accommodate more production numbers for all new Swift.

The surge of the SUV market in India .

Quote:

For the first 11 months of FY2018 (April 2017-February 2018), a total of 830,334 UVs have been sold in India (+21.34%), accounting for 27.79 percent of the overall passenger vehicle (PV) market which saw total sales of 2,987,259 units (+8.4%).

Every fourth PV sold in the country is an SUV and this segment is gradually eating into PV sales.
Quote:

The big market share gainers are Maruti Suzuki India, Tata Motors, Honda Cars India and FCA India, which opened its UV segment account with the Jeep Compass.
Quote:

The prominent ones who’ve lost market share are Mahindra & Mahindra, Hyundai Motor India, Ford India, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, Renault India and Nissan Motor India.

Marking the important part in bold. Never thought that government employees could be such a large customer segment!

Quote:

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has further extended the benefits of its special initiative for government employees - “Drive the Nation” to the Innova Crysta in the new year. So far applicable on the Etios series and Corolla Altis, the campaign has been highly appreciated across the country contributing to around 7% of the total sales and 11% to Etios sales in the personal segment.

Drive the Nation scheme presents 100% On Road Funding for a tenure of 8 Years for serving and retired government employees with Zero Down Payment and Lowest EMI. “Drive the Nation Champions” have been appointed in each of the sales outlet of Toyota in order to give dedicated attention to all government employee enquiries.

Here are the export figures of manufacturers, Ford is likely to top FY-18. Volkswagen, Nissan are companies whose exports outweigh its domestic sale.

Leading domestic OEMs like Maruti Suzuki India and Hyundai Motor India are focusing on meeting the rush of demand from the domestic market, which is growing and its plants are running near 100% capacity.

SIAM numbers are Wholesale / Factory Dispatch numbers.

As far as I know Nexon has a waiting period of around 4-6 weeks. Therefore the monthly numbers right nowe are more of what Tata can dispatch more than the "waiting game" of customers.

What goes wrong with Ford sales number that I am unable to comprehend. In CS and hatchback volume segment they have Aspire and Figo which are very competent products particularly in diesel avatars.

I am one of those guys who eagerly awaited Aspire and then cancelled it even without a test drive.

It so happened that I went to the Ford showroom with full family in toe just to have a look. The test drive cars were yet to arrive and all we had was a showroom car. We went anyway because it was very difficult to hold off the excitement. All good on the front seat, the visibility was good, the driving seat, steering and other controls, all ergonomics were good.

Then I got to the rear. The seat was smaller than Getz that we drove in. Poor thigh support and a very tight fifth person fit. There goes my first ever Ford car dream.

However, the number one reason for poor sales is the Ford staff. The only car they always want to sell is Ecosport. Not enough thrust on Aspire or Figo during (atleast) initial days.

We eventually bought Ciaz which was a much better package for us than the i20 we were considering, or for sake, any premium hatch or CS.

Big discounts from Maruti for models other than Brezza, Baleno, S-Cross and Swift. Reiterates the need for launching competitive and good-looking new models in keeping the sales chart ticking.

Interesting to note that new S-Cross has no discount which means it is in high demand. At least, its sales number exceeds the expectation of Maruti, as they had stated earlier that they expect a 20% more sales which means around 2.5K units. With more than 3K sales, Maruti will be more than happy.

1.1L discount for Wagon-R (more than even Celerio!) may be to flush-out the dealer stocks to customers but is the the new gen Wagon-R launch imminent?

Discount and the number of recent advertisements on DZire shows all is not well with the DZire after the launch of new Swift?

Seeing the sales charts, it seems Hyundai is kind of stagnated around 45K numbers. They need to introduce a sub-4m SUV and a 7-seater MUV in the Ertiga price range to increase the market share.

For Maruti, what they need is a +4M SUV to compete against Creta.

A cheaper MPV like Avanza to compete in the sub-10L price range and premium cars in the hatch and C-segment (against City, Ciaz and Verna) are needed by Toyota.

For Tata also, they need a car to compete against Baleno and i20.
