BMW India expects SUVs to form 50% of sales

According to a media report, BMW India expects one out of every two cars sold by the company to be their X-model SUVs. In India, BMW sells the X1, X3, X5 and X6 SUVs in the price range of Rs. 34.5 lakh to Rs. 1.30 crore.

BMW India President Vikram Pawah told the media that BMW SUVs contributed to 30% of total group sales earlier; since the launch of the new X1 however, the proportion of SUVs has gone up to 42%. The company is now targeting a 50% SUV share in their portfolio. To this effect, BMW recently launched the 3rd-gen X3 and has plans to bring the X4 here in 2019.

In the first quarter of 2018, the company reported sales growth of 11%. Despite a price hike earlier this year - due to an increase in customs duties - in the range of 3.5 - 5%, BMW expects to close the year with double-digit growth.

Re: BMW India expects SUVs to form 50% of sales

I think for Audi, it was already 50% in some months, due to the popularity of the Q SUVs (including the Q3). For Volvo, it might be well over. An inevitable sales trend considering how the market is moving to crossovers & SUVs in such a big way.

The entry-level luxury SUV segment is a rare one where Mercedes doesn't have an answer - the X1 & Q3 are damn good, but the GLA sucks.
